The final preparations are being made to go racing at the Honda Supercycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. It stopped raining at the track at 2:00 p.m. local time, and track workers have been drying the racing surface non-stop since 2:40 p.m. At 5:15 p.m. AMA Racing officials, according to a rain plan distributed beforehand, notified the paddock that AMA Superbike would go out for a 15-minute warm-up session at 6:15 p.m. A 10-minute break to change tires will follow the warm-up, and an 18-lap AMA Superbike race will then start. The AMA Supersport class will then go out for a short warm-up session, tire-change break and 12-lap race, followed by the AMA Superstock warm-up, tire-change break and race, daylight allowing. Sunset is forecast for 8:41 p.m. today in central Ohio. Based on experience from a recent test, the top AMA riders are concerned that the track will be extremely slippery due to the lack of rubber on it. Lap times at a post-rain test in June were several seconds slower than in the dry. SPEED Channel is planning to tape Sunday’s AMA races at Mid-Ohio, but it has not been determined when the races will be aired on the network. Update: After an additional drying session with a jet-powered dryer, AMA Superbikes took to the at 6:45 p.m. local time for a 15-minute warm-up/practice session.
