FIRST PERSON/OPINION According to a Myspace posting, rider and team owner Darrien Brown of Dee’s Motorsports has ridden for Erion Honda and the factory Honda team in AMA events. ~http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=174224291~ The posting includes this statement: “I’ve been involved in road racing since 1992. I raced on the amateur level from 1992-1997. In 1998 I joined the AMA and raced for Erion Honda. In 2001 I joined the factory-Honda racing team and am still active.” Reached by phone and asked if Darrien Brown had ever ridden for Erion Honda, team owner Kevin Erion said, “No. The answer is no.” Roadracingworld.com can find no evidence that Darrien Brown was ever involved in any way with the factory racing effort fielded by American Honda Motor Co. At post time, American Honda spokesman Jon Row had not yet returned a phone call seeking comment. We were tipped off to the Myspace listing by Leah Sherritt, who sent us the following e-mail: FIRST PERSON/OPINION Via e-mail: Well according to Darrien Brown’s/DeesMotorsports.com MySpace account he actually raced for Erion Honda in 1998 and in 2001 he raced for the factory Honda team. Hmmmm, I don’t seem to know who he is. I really dislike people like him. The “just a guy” racer has a hard enough time putting the funds together to go road racing or any other racing for that matter. And to have a phoney like this try to absorb funds…well, it really gets to me. At ~http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=174224291~you will see a pic of him in his replica Honda leathers. His sponsors shower him with resources to help complete his cause. His customers can register for driving courses and participate in sponsor raffles online.”
