Stone, 36 More, from a press release issued by American Suzuki: Jordan Suzuki’s May Wins His First-Ever AMA Superstock Race at Miller Event Jordan Suzuki’s Yates finishes second, maintains points lead Round 5 AMA Superstock Series Tooele, Utah Miller Motorsports Park May 29 June 1, 2008 Michael Jordan Motor Sports Suzuki’s Geoff May celebrated his first-ever AMA Superstock victory at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, on Saturday afternoon. May got a good start on his Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000 and led all but the first of nine laps to get the win. Jordan Suzuki teammate Aaron Yates followed May home in second place. Three-time AMA Superstock Champion Yates’ result means the Georgia native retains control of the AMA Superstock Championship points chase, while May is in third-place overall in the points standings. Geoff May: “I’ve been there so many times, leading the race and then on the last lap my teammate Aaron catches me. But I brought it home for the Jordan Suzuki team today. In the race, I got a good start and I thought, ‘I’ve got to get out of here and put as much space between me and those other guys as possible.’ I just kept my head down and tried to keep my cool. Now we’re just going to keep doing what we know how to do and try to put the Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000 on the box as often as we can. It’s a long season but we’re about halfway through, and we’re not out of the championship hunt, by any means.” Aaron Yates: “It was great to keep the points lead today. We definitely want to get the Championship for the Jordan Suzuki team. It was a good race, it’s a beautiful day and the perfect temperature for racing. I got a good jump off the line on my Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000. Geoff also got a good start and I knew he’d be tough to beat here because he’s been riding really good. I was in third place and I dropped the hammer and went as hard as I could and got on into second place. At that point, I was just chasing Geoff as hard as I could. It’s great to get the Jordan Suzuki’s up on the podium one-two and congratulations to Geoff on getting his first Superstock win.” More, from a press release issued by Pirelli: Pirelli World SBK Racers Resets Miller Lap Record Five-Times Over Rome, GA On day three of the premixed AMA Superbike/World Superbike event at Utah’s Miller Motorsports Park, Blake Young nailed the holeshot in the AMA Superstock race on his Pirelli shod M4 EMGO Suzuki, leading the entire pack of 29 big-bore bikes for the first lap, when he then discovered that there was a difference of opinion. While crossing the line after that lap, the two-toned flag displayed for Young’s personal interest indicated that others present, such as the AMA officials, considered his start a tad overly zealous. Two laps later Young did a drive through down the longest pit lane on the North American Continent, then fought his way back to a credible eleventh-place finish. Young said, “The grid box was different than usual and I wasn’t lined up in it like I thought I was. I thought I was still in it when the flag dropped but I was later shown I wasn’t. I rode upset for awhile then I calmed down and did what I could.” Also in Superstock, Pirelli riders finished fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth, those places earned by David Anthony, Robertino Pietri, Chris Ulrich and Ryan Elleby, all on Suzuki GSX-R1000s and all in that order. Pietri and Ulrich are teammates with Roadracingworld.com, while Anthony and Elleby are single rider efforts. The Superstock race was won by Geoff May. With Ulrich never finishing a 2008 Superstock race lower than seventh, he is now fourth in points, followed by teammate Pietri, Young and Anthony, in fifth, sixth and seventh. Scott Jensen and Elleby round out the top ten in ninth and tenth, despite Elleby not competing in the class at Daytona. Following having turned in the fastest lap in Friday’s Supersport practice, Attack Kawasaki’s Steve Rapp put his ZX-6R on the front row for Sunday’s Supersport final, in the number-four spot. Meanwhile, Blake Young put his M4 EMGO Suzuki GSX-R600 on row two in box number seven, looking forward to a super start for Sunday’s Supersport final. In Superpole for World Superbike, where Pirelli is the spec-tire, the AMA outer-course lap record was broken by five different riders, and ultimately by within a few hundredths of a full second. Earning the pole for Sunday’s SBK races was Carlos Checa on the Hannspree/Ten Kate Honda. Second on the grid is Max Neukirchner riding for Alstare Suzuki, with third going to Troy Bayliss of the Ducati Xerox team. The AMA is using the longest of Miller’s courses while SBK is using the outer course, as used by the AMA in all previous events. Blake Young stormed into the lead from his front-row qualifying position and led the race’s opening lap aboard his Pirelli-shod GSX-R10000 but was judged to have jumped the start. He was shown the ‘meatball’ flag, spoiling what might have been a memorable ride for the Wisconsin native. Young accepted the ruling and fell to the bottom half of the top 20 after coming in for his stop-and-go penalty. He then worked his way back up to 11th by the conclusion of the nine-lap race. Afterwards, the disappointed Young said, “I don’t know what happened — I’ve never jumped the start before. It was kind of weird, normally we line up in boxes and I line the backside of the front wheel up against the backside of the box, so if the bike does roll a little bit, I’m okay. When I came up and I saw the line and it was a half hashmark, I rolled up to the nose of it and I was a little bit uncomfortable. Obviously, it was my fault. “It’s too bad because I really felt we could have been up there. As soon as I came out of that last turn and saw the meatball was for me I was a little bit frustrated. I led the first lap and I felt really good. Hopefully it’s the last time I ever do that.” On Sunday Young will have a chance to get some redemption in the 60k Supersport final. He led the way for Team M4 EMGO Suzuki in Saturday’s qualifying session aboard his Suzuki GSX-R600, earning a spot on the second row of the grid. He qualified seventh fastest with a time of 2:53.329. Teammates Cory West and Michael Barnes will start on the fourth row, with West 13th at 2:54.161 and Barnes 15th at 2:54.322. Sunday’s AMA Supersport final will conclude Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s four-day race weekend in Utah sharing the stage with the visiting Superbike World Championship. More, from a press release issued by Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki: TOP FIVE IN SUPERSTOCK POINTS FOR PIETRI AND ULRICH OF TEAM ROADRACINGWORLD.COM SUZUKI Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki rung up two more top-ten finishes in AMA Superstock competition on Saturday at Miller Motorsports Park, near Salt Lake City, UT. Despite a rocky weekend, Robertino Pietri and Chris Ulrich came through in the 9-lap race to finish sixth and seventh, respectively. The two leave Utah ranked in the top five in the championship hunt, with Ulrich fourth with 128 points and Pietri fifth at 113. Venezuelan Pietri qualified on the second row with a quick time of 2:51.421 aboard his Pirelli-shod GSX-R1000, while Ulrich was a row further back, qualifying ninth at 2:51.697. Teammate Santiago Villa qualified on the fourth row, posting the 15th best time of the session at 2:55.070. Pietri, a former Latin American and Venezuelan Superbike champ, held down his qualifying position most of the race and ultimately finished in sixth position. Ulrich fought his way up from 10th early and chased Pietri to the checkered flag, finishing just over a second back in seventh. Villa climbed up to as high as 13th before registering a DNF and being awarded 25th after completing 7 laps. Afterwards, both Pietri and Ulrich expressed disappointment, expecting even more this weekend. “It was a very tough weekend,” Pietri remarked. “We didn’t expect it to be to be this tough. We came in here after a couple good runs and we went great here last year, and last year Fontana and Infineon were my weakest tracks. The expectation for this race was pretty high even though it was a new track with the longer configuration. We knew were behind because we didn’t test here and we ran into a lot of problems. My guys worked so hard and I really appreciated their effort. “We qualified sixth and finished sixth. That’s not too bad and we leave here in fifth place in the championship. It was a great team effort but we’re ready to move onto Road America.” Ulrich said, “I’m upset. For me, we had some technical problems at the start of this four-day marathon and it put us behind the eight ball. We were catching up and catching up but it was a little too little, too late. For sure I’m disappointed, I don’t feel I should be racing for seventh or eighth, I should be up in the top five. The gap to the frontrunners that tested here was a little disturbing. “We’re going to go the next round and put the hammer down. We’re going to charge at Road America pretty hard. I’m not finishing seventh there.” Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki will be back in action next weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI on June 6-8.
