FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: Fong’s helmet is clearly ahead (no pun). So, that’s who won. David Janeczko Kona, Hawaii FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: Based upon what the AMA relied on and assuming the red line represents the finish line, Bobby Fong won the race. Next question. Dean Macaskill Toronto, Ontario FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: I can’t tell. Is that Sasquatch, or do I see the Loch Ness Monster? Tom Jahn Cedarburg, Wisconsin FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: Wow, thats close!! When you look at the front tire and rear of the bikes, it looks like a dead heat to me! Joe Weinroth Los Angeles, California FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: Someone earlier mentioned that the official AMA timing system read 0.000. If this is true, then it’s a tie. It’s pretty simple to me. I mean really, what’s the point of having transponders on the bikes then??? The timing and scoring equipment seems to have done its job. The picture, even with its poor quality, backs up the timing equipment. IT’S A TIE. They act as though a tie can not happen. Well it did and all those that watched this race saw that. Lap times are recorded for each and every lap of a race. The timing system also determines the grid for the start of each race. The timing systems also keeps track of whose doing what in the practice sessions. We as viewers get the updates as to who has set the fastest lap throughout the entire race. So on the last lap the timing system says 0.000 and they pick a winner??? The AMA blew it on this one! That decision now means that the timing system means nothing. Peter Long Pontiac, Michigan FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: My comment…And the tie goes to the Fonger Bob Prange Sheboygan, Wisconsin FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: I see one pixel of Martin’s wheel beyond the red line, and none for Fong. So sorry Bobby, Martin deserves full points. Jim Dolan Anaheim, California FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: Get Cardenas some mirrors! 🙂 Rick Fairbairn Simpsonville, South Carolina FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: As soon as Cardenas turned his head to look back – I figured he was toast. He has got to kick that stupid habit — maybe this will give him some incentive to do so. Gregg Mitchell Rochester Hills, Michigan FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: One clue as to who really won that I haven’t seen discussed is: where on each rider’s bike was their transponder mounted? I saw Greg White on Speed Channel show that one of the riders – Bobby Fong as I recall – had his transponder mounted on the front fairing bracket, ahead of the fork tube, which is the customary transponder location. So IF Martin Cardenas’ transponder was mounted to his fork tube or any other location further to the rear, it would prove that Cardenas won… because both transponders crossed the line at exactly the same time, and that would mean Cardenas’ bike would be slightly further forward than Fong’s. Good job Bobby! and, as always, much respect for Martin. Nick Hayman San Francisco, California
