The results of Friday afternoon’s ASRA Team Challenge race at Daytona International Speedway were released Saturday, and those results identified Ducati Miami as the race winners and Moon Cycles Repsol as the new ASRA Champions. The delay in the release of the results was caused by some bikes in the field having non-functional scoring transponders and the back-up manual scorers unable to keep track of which teams pitted when. A complete review of the manual scoring and electronic scoring of the 43-lap race had to be done in order to determine the race and Championship winners. That review was completed late Friday night, and results were issued and later made final Saturday morning. Originally, Moon’s Super Cycle was thought to have won the race and with it the overall Championship for the seven consecutive year. However, the official results named Ducati Miami’s Dario Marchetti and Barrett Long as the overall and GTO class race winners on their Dunlop-shod 1098 S. Moon’s Super Cycle’s Calvin Martinez and Marco Martinez (no relation) were scored second overall and in the GTO class on Marco Martinez’ sprint GSX-R1000, which was drafted into service at the last minute due to the team’s primary endurance bike blowing its engine. Third place overall went to Vallely Racing 32 (Mike Himmelsbach/David Hudson), which was in contention for the overall race win until a crash in the second half of the race cost them time. Seventh place overall was just enough for Moon Cycles Repsol’s Rick Beggs and Paul Gilchrist to win the 2007 ASRA Team Challenge overall Championship by five points over Moon’s Super Cycle. A crash dropped overall Championship challenger Chucktown Moto (Matt Huber/Kenny Rodriguez) to 18th in the final race results, but that was enough for the team to win the GTO class Championship. David Willis and Vinton Squires rode their Bone Head Racing Kawasaki ZX-6 to ninth overall and the GTU class win, while Touring Sport Ducati’s Peter Friedland, Brad Phillips and Frank Shockley rode a Ducati 1000 SS to first in the GT Lights division. Dafanz Tuning’s Krishna Pribaldi put the finishing touches on his Solo Challenge National Championship by winning the class in a borrowed Kawasaki ZX-10R that he fitted with a self-made, seven-gallon fuel tank. More, from a press release issued by Dafanz Tuning: DafanZ Tuning would like to congratulate Krishna Pribadi on becoming the 2007 ASRA Solo Challenge Champion! After winning the final round of ASRA Solo Challenge race in Daytona Beach FL, DafanZ Tuning rider Krishna Pribadi has clinched the 2007 ASRA Solo Challenge Championship. Perhaps the most grueling Championship, the series contenders have to test their skills and endurance in races that are scheduled for over 2 hours with multiple pit stops required. The grueling season got off to a good start for Krishna in Daytona in February, and he continued to improve his results and built a good lead in the point standings through the first part of the season. Second part of the season saw Ivan Milan took a late charge and impressed everyone by winning round and eating into Krishna’s lead. Then at Black Hawk Farms disaster struck as Krishna crashed out of the lead and was unable to continue and score any points when his fuel tank ruptured and prevented him to rejoin the race. Krishna did not give up however, after we rebuilt the bike and totally changed his suspension, he came back strong and finished 2nd at VIR and minimized his point loss. Although Milan took over the championship lead, Krishna is still not out of contention. All it would take was for him to win the race at the last round in Daytona ROC, and he would still claim the championship we all worked so hard to achieve. Knowing his CBR600RR would put him at an disadvantage, DafanZ Tuning owner Dafan Zhang offered his personal ZX10R to Krishna for this special race. The whole plan came into place in 2 weeks and everyone worked day and night to make it happen. Hard work would not go un-rewarded as Krishna crossed the line 4th overall and won his Solo Challenge class outright at Daytona International Speedway, and thus becoming the 2007 ASRA Solo Challenge Champion. We at DafanZ Tuning would like to sincerely congratulate Krishna for a hard fought season and victory. This is the first Championship for team DafanZ Tuning and we hope to achieve many more to come in the future.
