Dillon Atkins (Yam YZF-R6), no time recorded More, from a press release issued by LTD Racing: CHALLENGING OPENING DAY FOR LTD RACING AT NEW JERSEY Millville, NJ (Sept 2 2011) The final AMA Pro race weekend of the year kicked off at New Jersey Motorsports Park on Friday and the LTD Racing team faced a tough challenge. With David Gaviria already wrapping up the West Division SuperSport championship for the team, the Colombian is looking to take the overall title and teammate Tomas Puerta is in the hunt to earn the East championship. There are two races this weekend, plus qualifying will yield points like a race. Gaviria earned seventh on Friday with a time of 1:27.180. “I love this track and my bike was working well but I got tired easily today. I have to improve my riding tomorrow,” said Gaviria. “Today Tomy and I couldn’t really work together in qualifying but we will tomorrow if we can.” Puerta struggled on Friday and could only qualify 12th provisionally, his lowest performance of the year at 1:27.546. The Daytona race winner is confident he can improve on Saturday morning, however. “It was a tough qualifying. We don’t have a good setup on the bike yet. The back wheel was spinning a lot coming out of the turns. We tried something but we went the wrong way with the changes. Segment 3 is really hard for me right now. I really hope our changes work and I’m hoping to move up in the order tomorrow. Hopefully, we can improve.” In Daytona SportBike, Huntley Nash qualified 18th of Friday with a time of 1:27.429. “I think we can go way faster but it was an all right start to the weekend. We’re making some changes to the bike. The track came back to me and I have ridden well here before. It’s not my favorite track but there are some cool parts to it, like the Esses.” Raul Alzate was 28th but sliced several seconds from his morning time in his first day at NJMP. The Colombian is struggling with some injuries but is determined to have a positive weekend. “In the morning, I tried to learn the track and in qualifying, I was able to improve. It will be difficult because of my shoulder injury but I will try my best.” LTD Racing’s Director of Competition Gary Medley said, “It was a tough day but we have some ideas on going forward. The crew and riders will work really hard to end the season on a high note.”
