TIE, West/Andrews, 91 points More, from a press release issued by Team M4 EMGO Suzuki: CARDENAS FIGHTS AT THE FRONT IN UTAH FORMULA XTREME RACE Team M4 EMGO Suzuki enjoyed another strong outing on Saturday, picking up a top-five race result and a front row qualifying position in blazing hot conditions at Miller Motorsports Park near Tooele, UT. Colombian Martin Cardenas backed up his podium-earning Formula Xtreme debut for the team with a second spectacular ride aboard his Pirelli-shod GSX-R600 FX racer. After starting from seventh on the grid, the former World 250 Grand Prix competitor was part of a five-rider lead pack that broke away early during the thrilling 13-lap final. After fighting his way up to as high as fourth, Cardenas settled into to a close fifth at the checkered flag. Meanwhile, Geoff May claimed a pair of top-five qualifying positions on Saturday, including a front row grid slot for Sunday’s Supersport contest. The Georgian’s best time of 1: 54.314 aboard his GSX-R600 secured him a spot on the outside of row one. He’ll start the Superstock race from the inside of the second row, qualifying fifth at 1:51.925. Cardenas broke into the top ten in the Supersport session as well, qualifying on the third row with the tenth best time of the session (1: 55.172). Californian Michael Beck was a bit further back, qualifying 17th at 1:56.123. At the end of the day Team M4 EMGO Suzuki Crew Chief Keith Perry said, “Martin did an excellent job in the Formula Xtreme race. After qualifying and starting seventh, he ended up running in fifth and even got up into fourth for a time. You can tell he’s a quality racer and that’s good to see. He fought hard and was in there with the top guys. “Geoff did great in Supersport qualifying. We’re looking for a little more speed and that’s showing a little more here than we’d like, but we’re working hard and the tires are working great. We’re going to keep on doing our best and see what we can do tomorrow.” More, from a press release issued by Pirelli: Rome, Georgia: At round six of the 2007 AMA Superbike series, at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, Pirelli riders claimed four of the top ten places in the Formula Xtreme final, in the high heat of the high desert south of the salt flats. With the temperature banging against 100 degrees, Attack Kawasaki’s Ben Attard led the Pirelli charge in Formula Xtreme on his ZX-6R, finishing next to the foot of the podium in 4th place, 2.7 seconds behind race-winner Aaron Gobert. A few tenths behind Attard in 5th was Martin Cardenas riding a GSX-R600 for Team M4 EMGO Suzuki, moving forward in the race from his 7th-place qualifying position, again showing why he earned the ride made available by the injured Michael Barnes. Steve Rapp, Attard’s Attack Kawasaki teammate, was 6th while Cory West took 9th on his Chuck Giacchetto-prepared Team Hunter Yamaha R-6, and Taylor Knapp placed 12th on a 2Xtreem Kawasaki, all using Pirelli Diablo Superbike Slicks. In Supersport qualifying for Sunday’s race, M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Geoff May earned a place on the front row in 4th, with his teammate Martin Cardenas on row three in 10th. The Attack Kawasaki riders, Steve Rapp and Ben Attard secured the 7th and 11th spots on the grid while Cory West placed 12th, putting five Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa riders on the first three rows of the Supersport grid. Superstock qualifying saw Geoff May nab 5th on the grid with the consistently top-running Robertino Pietri and Chris Ulrich laying down the 7th and 9th fastest times on their Roadracingworld.com Suzuki GSX-R1000s. Scott Jensen was 10th quickest and in Saturday’s Superbike race Jensen finished 12th, which placed him as the number-two finishing privateer.
