Josh Day, 42 points More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Attack Kawasaki’s Rapp Second in Points after Solid Formula Xtreme Finish in Fontana FONTANA, Calif. (April 28, 2007) Attack Kawasaki’s Steve Rapp battled to a sixth-place finish during the third round of the AMA Formula Xtreme at California Speedway in Fontana, Calif. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Roger Hayden took eighth in the first of two AMA Superbike races this weekend. After avoiding a crash on the first lap, Rapp was able to regain his momentum, charting the second-fastest lap time for the race. He eventually moved his Kawasaki ZX™-6R from eighth-place to finish in sixth. “I felt good and my lap times were good,” said Rapp. “Once I caught up to the pack in front of me, they were hard to pass and I was running out of time. But overall, the race was good. I just need to work on my start for tomorrow’s supersport race.” Rapp currently sits second in the point standings and is only 10 points out of first place. Teammate Ben Attard was hit by another rider on the first lap and was able to save his bike from crashing. After regaining his composure, he realized his bike had suffered a broken shifter, sending him back to the pits and ending his day. In the AMA Superbike race, Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Roger Hayden earned another top-10 finish, while teammate Jamie Hacking in 11th place. “It was kind of a boring race for me since I started eighth and finished eighth,” said Hayden. “I was riding well. The guys in front of me were a ways off and I had a pretty big gap on the guys behind me. Overall, it was a pretty long race but I’m looking to improve tomorrow.” The second of two AMA Superbike races, along with the AMA Supersport race, is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at California Speedway. More, from a press release issued by Team M4 EMGO Suzuki: TOP FIVE FOR BARNES AND TEAM M4 EMGO SUZUKI AT CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY Michael Barnes took a top-five finish in the Formula Xtreme race and Geoff May claimed two front row starting positions as Team M4 EMGO Suzuki enjoyed a second solid day’s work at California Speedway this weekend on Saturday. Barnes got away strong in the 17-lap FX race, moving up from third into second on lap 4 and then holding the position down for the next six laps. The Florida resident fought hard in the multi-rider pack aboard his Pirelli-shod Suzuki GSX-R600, ultimately claiming fifth, less than a second off a podium finish. Barnes, who finished third in the Daytona 200 season opener, now ranks third in the 2007 Formula Xtreme title chase with 71 points. Meanwhile, May continued to excel despite feeling the after effects of his huge Barber Motorsports crash that took place last Sunday. The Georgian just missed scoring the pole for Sunday’s Supersport race by 0.049 seconds with a 1:27.084 lap. He’ll start the 60k race from the second slot on the front row. May also picked up a front row starting position in Superstock, guiding his GSX-R1000 to the fourth best time (1:25.268 ), despite focusing his efforts during qualifying on getting ready for Sunday’s race. Speaking of his Supersport qualifying performance, May said, “It was great but I got nipped there by a hundredth or two. It would have been nice to have a ‘for real pole’ since I don’t really count the one at Ohio because it was based off Friday practice. I chalk our success up to my mechanics. We decided to put in our fast time early instead of trying to do it at the last minute and I think that helped. I still believe we would have been on the front row but it helped to get it done early. The track was really greasing up out there and a lot of people were throwing their bikes down the road. “We did what we wanted to on the big bike,” he continued, commenting on his Superstock session. “We got up there and got the thing on the front row; that’s all that really matters. We were working more on our race set-up and trying to get the bike ready for the heat. “I had a little visit from an orthopedic surgeon and he came and looked at me this morning,” May said of his physical condition. “I was hurting really bad and I wasn’t able to take anything for the pain or an anti-inflammatory all week because of the bleeding in my thigh from the impact. He came in and inspected me and I was able to take some Advil and that made all the difference in the world. I feel 100% now.” Barnes and prospect Michael Beck will join May in the Supersport final. ‘Barney’ will open the race from the second row, qualifying sixth fastest at 1:27.451, while Californian Beck will aim to move up the order from his sixth-row grid spot, 22nd overall at 1:29.666.
