Steve Vento (Kaw ZX-6R), 1:36.990 More, from a press release issued by Team M4 EMGO Suzuki: MAY SECOND FASTEST IN OPENING ROAD ATLANTA SUPERSPORT PRACTICE Team M4 EMGO Suzuki put in a strong showing on Friday at Road Atlanta, the scene of the penultimate round of the 2007 AMA roadracing championship season. All three of the squad’s riders broke into the top ten on the opening day in Georgia, including a top-two practice performance and a front-row qualifying effort. Home crowd favorite Geoff May got his weekend off to a stellar start at the circuit located just miles from his Gainesville, GA home. May was second fastest in the Supersport free practice, lapping aboard his Pirelli-shod GSX-R600 with a quick time of 1: 25.425. May was similarly impressive in Superstock, guiding his GSX-R1000 racer to the fifth best lap of Friday’s opening practice at 1:23.807. “It was a good day,” May said. “It’s only Friday and we’ve already got a good set-up for the weekend. I hear there’s a chance that it will rain later this weekend, but if it does I think we’re in pretty good shape, especially on the 600.” “It’s nice to be racing at home,” he continued. “I couldn’t think of a better place to get my first win. This would be a good one to do it at — I’ve always done well here and we’re in pretty good shape looking ahead to this weekend’s races.” Colombian Martin Cardenas was once again among the top riders in the Formula Xtreme class despite his relative lack of experience on American racetracks. The former Spanish Supersport champion fought at the top of the charts during Friday afternoon’s FX qualifying session and ultimately secured a front-row starting position for Saturday’s 15-lap final with the class’ fourth fastest lap at 1: 24.881. Michael Beck enjoyed one of his better days of the ’07 season today at Road Atlanta. The young Californian joined teammate May in the Supersport top ten, clocking the tenth best time of the practice session at 1: 26.342. Cardenas was right on his tail, claiming the eleventh fastest lap at 1:26.445. On Saturday Team M4 EMGO Suzuki will attempt to pick up additional front row starting positions during the Supersport and Superstock qualifying sessions while Cardenas will once again look to climb on the FX podium.
