Cardenas, 55 points More, from a press release issued by Pirelli: Under a white, humid sky in the August of Ohio, Australian Ben Attard took his Attack Kawasaki to a hard-earned second-place finish in the Formula Xtreme race on Saturday afternoon, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, in Lexington, Ohio. Attard finished 5.4 seconds behind race-winner Josh Hayes, and barely a bike length in front of third-place finisher Chaz Davies, which translates out to about a hundredth of a second. During much of the race Attard battled with his Attack Kawasaki teammate, Steve Rapp, trading second place a couple times on their ZX-6Rs shod with Pirelli Diablo Superbike Slicks. By race’s end, Rapp encountered problems and finished ninth, his lowest finish of the season. With three races remaining Steve Rapp is second in Formula Xtreme points and Attard is fifth. Today’s FX race marked Pirelli’s 16th podium in 2007 in the AMA Superbike series. In Supersport qualifying, Pirelli riders earned three places on row two for Sunday’s race with Ben Attard leading the group on his Attack Kawasaki at fourth-fastest. Steve Rapp, also, of course, on an Attack Kawasaki ZX-6R, is sixth on the grid with M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Geoff May sandwiched between those two with his fifth-place-earning qualifying performance and leading time for a Suzuki GSX-R600. The gap between the top qualifier and seventh on the grid is just over three tenths of a second, promising for a close race on Sunday, check you local listings. The Attack Kawasaki riders qualified on regular Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa DOT racing tires, not qualifying tires. Superstock qualifying had M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Geoff May earn the first place on the outside of row two of the grid, with the fifth-fastest time of the session. Also on row two is Chris Ulrich on his Roadracingworld.com Suzuki, having set the eighth-fastest qualifying time. Ulrich’s teammate, Robertino Pietri will be starting Sunday’s Superstock race from row three, earned by setting the tenth-fastest time in qualifying. Next to Pietri is HALOF Racing’s Scott Jensen, nabbing yet another top qualifying position for the Pirelli Diablo Superbike Slicks. More, from a press release issued by Team M4 EMGO Suzuki: PROBLEMS FOR CARDENAS IN MID-OHIO FORMULA XTREME Saturday was an up and down day at the track for Team M4 EMGO Suzuki at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. After a solid performance qualifying for Sunday’s Superstock and Supersport finals, the squad had a difficult outing in the Formula Xtreme final that concluded the day’s activities. Geoff May picked up a pair of second-row grid positions on Saturday. He was fifth fastest aboard his Pirelli-shod GSX-R1000 in the Superstock session despite suffering a fall in the turn 2 chicane halfway through the session. May rebounded to post a 1: 26.130 and has his sights set upon a return to the Mid-Ohio podium in tomorrow’s 16-lap final. May then qualified his GSX-R600 Supersport racer in sixth position with a quick lap of 1:27.887 around the 2.4-mile circuit. His teammates, Martin Cardenas and Michael Beck, will start the 60k Supersport race from a couple rows back as Colombian Cardenas was 13th at 1: 28.808 while Californian Beck was 16th at 1:28.957. After Supersport qualifying, Cardenas turned his attention to the FX race. He got away well at the green light, running in seventh position for the race’s opening five laps but was eventually forced back into the pits for a quick repair of his equipment. He made his way back out on the course to finish the race and was ultimately classified in 36th position. Cardenas said, “I had a good start and was running pretty strong but a few laps in we had some problems and I had to go in for a pit stop.” Looking ahead of tomorrow’s Supersport race, he added, “I’m still looking for the right set-up with the bike. This is a difficult track. It’s been one of the hardest tracks for me to learn and it has some really difficult sections. I’m hoping that tomorrow morning we will find the right set-up and then we will see what I can do.”
