Cameron BEAUBIER (KTM), 2:04.424 13 More, from a press release issued by Team Haojue: Team Haojue riders Michael Ranseder and Matt Hoyle made a steady start to this weekend’s Polini Grand Prix of Japan today, using the free practice session to run in new engines and work on developing base settings on a unique new carburettor. “A single 45 minute session doesn’t really give a lot of time to run in new engines, let alone set up the new carburettor,” said team director Garry Taylor. “The machines were airlifted from the Qatar GP two weeks ago and as soon as we landed here in Japan we had to set to work on re-building the engines with the latest spec components. “The new carburettor is a unique downdraft design that we have been working on as part of an ongoing technical collaboration with Dell’Orto in Italy. Even under closed test conditions it would take some time to set up, so it would be unrealistic to expect instant results here. “This is only our second GP in our development year and we are effectively developing the machine on a session be session, race by race basis. But Haojue and the whole race team are totally focused on moving onwards and upwards” Michael Ranseder: “There was not a lot of time today to run in the new engines and work on settings, but we are making progress. Rain is forecast for tomorrow and I have a good record in the wet and so that could help us. The whole team is focused on the development programme and it’s great to be a part of it.” Matt Hoyle: “This is a new track for me and so I have to learn it from scratch. We had to take it easy on the new motors for the first half of the session anyway, but I know we will improve tomorrow. The talk of rain is good for me because I must have done half my racing in the wet in England!”
