Eslick, 138 * clinches 2008 Championship More, from a press release issued by American Suzuki: Team M4 EMGO’s Suzuki’s Cardenas Celebrates Third-Straight FX Podium at Road Atlanta Round 9 AMA Formula Xtreme Series Braselton, Georgia Road Atlanta August 29 – 31, 2008 Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas once again captured an AMA Formula Xtreme podium position, this time at the penultimate race in Braselton, Georgia’s Road Atlanta on Saturday afternoon. The 15-lap race saw Cardenas charge hard on his M4 EMGO Suzuki GSX-R600 and pick up his fourth FX podium of the season. The race itself was red flagged early on and Cardenas got off the line first in the re-start and led a lap before bringing home third place. Although Cardenas missed several rounds this season after he was injured in a crash at the beginning of the year, the M4 EMGO Suzuki rider is currently in seventh place overall in the championship points chase. Martin Cardenas: “Today was a great race. Before and after the red flag, I got good starts in on my M4 EMGO Suzuki GSX-R600, though it was a little bit better start the second time. It was a very good race for me. Throughout the whole race, there was much passing with another rider, especially with just a few laps to go. In the end I was able to maintain my position and bring home a podium finish. I am happy with the race, and with how the Suzuki felt and how the tires performed, so I want to thank my team and everyone who’s helped me.” More, from a press release issued by Team M4 EMGO Suzuki: POLE FOR YOUNG, PODIUM FOR CARDENAS AT ROAD ATLANTA Team M4 EMGO Suzuki enjoyed a second tremendous day at Road Atlanta on Saturday as Martin Cardenas claimed his fourth Formula Xtreme podium finish of the season and Blake Young backed up his Friday practice leadership by taking the pole for Sunday’s Superstock race. Colombian Cardenas has been remarkable down the stretch, picking up his third consecutive FX podium since returning to full health following an early-season injury. Cardenas twice got his trademark launches to the front at the green light aboard his Pirelli-shod GSX-R600, including the holeshot in the second start of the once red-flagged affair. After scrapping briefly with Jake Zemke and Josh Hayes, Martin settled into a race-long battle with Steve Rapp. The two swapped positions on the race’s final two laps with Cardenas getting the better of his rival on the last lap to claim his third-straight third by a scant 0.114-second margin. “I got a good start both times but a little bit better one in the second one,” Cardenas said. “It was a very good race for me. I battled the whole race with Steve Rapp. Two laps to go I passed him down the back straight in the braking zone. On the last lap he passed me again on the straight and I passed him back. I maintained the position to the flag and I finished third. “It was a very good race. The bike and the tires were great so big thanks to my team, Pirelli and Suzuki.” Despite missing two races and riding at less than 100% at Road America, Cardenas is ranked sixth in the class with 186 points heading into the Laguna Seca season finale. Earlier in the day Young added yet another first in a season that has already seen the rising star score his maiden AMA podium and race victory. The Wisconsinite pushed his GSX-R1000 Superstock machine to a blistering 1:25.539 lap to pick up the first pole position of his AMA career. Young is confident that his strong starting position will translate into a strong race result. He said, “Qualifying went pretty well. We started off with the race set-up and put race tires on the bike and just wanted to go feel out what our race tires were going to be like in this heat. I think we’ve got a pretty good racebike and some good tires from Pirelli underneath us this weekend. I think we’ve got something for them in the race.” While Cardenas and Young highlighted the day in the FX and Superstock classes, Cory West was the team’s top qualifier for Sunday’s 15-lap Supersport race. The Arkansas native put in a best time of 1:28.575 to qualify on the second row with the session’s seventh fastest lap. After running second quick on Friday, Young will line up on the third row on Sunday, qualifying 10th at 1:28.640, while Cardenas will line up a row further back 13th at 1:28.943. Team M4 EMGO Suzuki will look to close out the weekend on Sunday on par with their Friday and Saturday performances in the day’s 60k Superstock and Supersport finals. More, from a press release issued by Build Momentum, on behalf of LeoVince Foremost Insurance Ducati: LeoVince/Foremost Insurance/Ducati Report – Pegram Finishes 6th at Road Atlanta Larry Pegram in 4th Place Overall in AMA Formula Xtreme Series Brasleton, GA (August 31, 2008) – The team had hopes of adding another podium to the list for the 2008 season at the lovely Road Atlanta course. But when the racing was done, 6th place was where Pegram finished with his Ducati 848. The finish at Road Atlanta puts Pegram in 4th overall in the AMA Formula Xtreme Series with one race left in the series. Pegram is currently just nine points out of third place. The weekend’s practice sessions went well with Pegram in 6th place, with a 1:28.546 on Friday and a 1:28.675 on Saturday. In qualifying he dropped back a spot to 7th with his best qualifying run at 1:28.618. In the race Pegram was able to break into the 27’s with a 1:27.777, which was fast enough to give him the 5th fastest lap time. Pegram moved quickly into 6th place, where he remained for the first four laps. After a red flag and a tire change to a softer compound, he was racing with the pack of riders in 3rd thru 5th place. Three laps from the finish he had to swing wide to avoid Chaz Davies, which cost him a few seconds. For the final three laps he raced at a solid pace to take 6th overall. “My goal is to win and to consistently be on the podium. We have not achieved that goal during the last few races. The results are in and they are what they are. However, the big win for us this weekend is that we picked up some valuable information about the set-up, which should help us at Laguna in a few weeks. The team has been working hard to find the best set-up at each track with the new Ducati 848. The bike is amazing, it is just that the other teams have stepped it up a few notches and we are playing catch up. I am looking forward to racing at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca; I like the track. Last year we finished strong at Laguna Seca with a 2nd place finish,” stated Pegram. The Formula Xtreme race will be televised on SPEED Channel on Tuesday, September 2, 2008. The next race is September 27, 2008 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California (www.laguna-seca.com).
