AMA Privateers Shine in WERA National at Miller TOOELE, Utah AMA privateers showed the fast way around Miller Motorsports Park’s 3.06-mile track during last weekend’s WERA National and Sportsman Series races, winning many of the National Challenge Series expert races. Saturday’s racing featured the WERA/Bridgestone National Endurance Series. Vesrah Suzuki’s Mark Junge, Chris Ulrich, John Jacobi and Tray Batey won their third consecutive race on a Suzuki GSX-R1000. After an early battle, Vesrah pulled ahead to take the overall and Heavyweight Superbike win by four laps. Team Velocity Racing/Team Moe’s took second overall, earning another Heavyweight Superstock class win. Chuck Ivey, Josh Day and James Stroud rode the Yamaha YZF-R1. Third overall and first in Mediumweight Superbike went to bp Concepts, with Ben Thompson, Brandon Parrish, Bo Lemastus and Andy Feuersthaler on a Suzuki GSX-R600. After six hours of racing, bp Concepts beat fourth-place finishers Suzuki Rider Development by just 47 seconds. Millnic Media Honda rounded out the top five, taking the Mediumweight Superstock win with Melissa Paris, Steven Breckenridge and Josh Hayes on a Honda CBR600RR. The Lightweight Superbike win went to Bad Rad Racing’s Joe Schoch and Aaron Aaronson on a Suzuki SV650. During Sunday’s WERA/Michelin National Challenge Series and WERA West Pirelli Sportsman Series sprint races, the expert classes were dominated by AMA privateers preparing for this weekend’s AMA Pro Racing round at Miller. Danny Eslick started the day with a win in Open Superstock, and Cory West won 600 Superstock with a slim 0.044-second lead over Chris Peris. In 750 Superbike, Peris was the one at the front of the pack when the checkered flag came out. Jason Perez had a narrow win in 600 Superbike, with only one-tenth of a second between himself and Josh Day. Blake Young won Formula 1, Dane Westby took the Lightweight Twins Superstock victory, and young hot shoe Cam Beaubier was the Formula 2 victor. Among the regular National Series riders, Lee Acree won 750 Superstock and Tray Batey dominated Heavyweight Twins Superstock. In the novice division, Russell Wikle continued to earn the first-place trophies, winning five events: 600 Superstock and Superbike, 750 Superstock and Superbike, and Open Superstock. Aaron Hartshorn won Formula 1 novice, Patrick McCord was at the front of Lightweight Twins, and Kevin Heiss earned the Formula 2 win. Round four of the WERA National Series will be during Cycle Jam at Road Atlanta, June 28-July 1. More information about WERA can be found online at ~http://www.wera.com~. More, from a press release issued by Cliff’s Cycle Revolution: Eric Wood and NCR Millona ‘One Shot’ Smash NHIS Record at Loudon Classic Loudon, NH Ducati enthusiasts rejoiced as veteran Eric Wood took the NCR Ducati Millona ‘One Shot’ to a record time for air-cooled twins at New Hampshire International Speedway during the 84th Loudon Classic weekend. During practice Eric was circulating NHIS with consistent upper 1:13 times. With the help of veteran tuner Bruce Meyers, Eric set to adjust the Ohlins suspension and Dunlop tire pressures to his liking. “It’s not my bike and I didn’t want to push too hard”, said Eric. “I was very happy with the times and excited about the potential the NCR showed early on”. Saturday hosted the Supertwins race and Eric ran away from the field holding strong from flag to flag. He covered the circuit with his fastest time of 1:13.455 breaking the track record that he himself had set. Eric noted, “This bike is simply amazing and so much fun to ride. The NCR acts like a 250GP bike. You can carry momentum into the corner, then just think and it turns! And the brakes, the brakes are phenomenal.” Sunday saw some debate as to which class to run. “Middleweight GP would be exciting but wouldn’t it be great to see how the NCR will run in Unlimited GP?” said Eric. Joe Ippoliti, NCR co-owner agreed and let Eric give Millona’s Ducati inspired 1000DS 2-valve engine a shot against the high horsepower bikes found in class. Eric was up for the challenge and used all of Millona’s 109 rear wheel horsepower and 270lb lightweight chassis to qualify front row. At the drop of the flag he found himself 5th into turn 1. Then, turn 3 saw Eric run uncharacteristically wide and at the end of the lap he was 7th. Eric would later comment that if he didn’t gain ground quickly, the leaders would horsepower away from him. “I hit the brakes very, very late and the bike got a little unstable”. By lap 4 Eric, with his head down, was challenging for 4th position. Then, on lap 5, he set a new record for air-cooled twins with a 1:12.878. Eric moved into podium position and there he stayed for the races 15 lap duration. “I really enjoyed riding the NCR this weekend”, said Eric atop the 3rd place slot. “It was a tremendous opportunity and a lot of fun. I want to thank Joe from NCR Corse, Chris from Cliff’s Cycle Revolution, and Jason from Ducati NA for putting this together so quickly. Bruce did a great job setting up the bike to run fast and I can’t wait to see what they bring next year!” “Eric did a fantastic job for us this weekend, said Joe Ippoliti. “We couldn’t have asked for a more talented rider and spokesperson to showcase NCR in our first visit to NHIS. NCR Corse is working on a 1200cc version of Millona at the factory and we are expecting some tremendous horsepower gains with the bigger engine and revised heads. We would love to have Eric ride again next year if he wants.” “It was great fortune to have Joe and Jason at our NCR/Ducati open house last weekend”, said Chris Kirkness, sales manager from Cliff’s Cycle Revolution in Danbury CT. “Joe brought Millona down for our NCR launch with New Blue and before the weekend was over, Jason had arranged for Eric to ride. Congratulations to Eric on some fantastic racing and a new lap record. I think he surprised a lot of people and gave the fans a show they will not soon forget”. NCR Millona, NCR ‘New Blue’ and NCR Corse race components are entirely hand built and sold through Cliff’s Cycle Revolution, New England’s exclusive NCR dealer. Anyone interested in the ‘NCR Millona Customer-Race’ program can contact Cliff’s to order their personal custom Millona. ‘Customer-race members’ receive priority for all new products intrduced by NCR. Aaron Clark of MotoSix Motorsports rode to a spectacular third place finish in Open Supersport against stiff competition during the WERA National round at Miller Motorsports Park this past weekend. With air temperatures close to 100 degrees and a track temperature soaring to nearly 140 degrees Fahrenheit, Clarkie’s qualifying session went well as he put his 2007 Fay Myer’s sponsored Suzuki GSX-R1000 on the second row of the Open Supersport race. Aaron has always shined in the race however, and like many of his past races at Miller Motorsports Park he impressed everyone in attendance this weekend. With the likes of Tray Batey, Danny Eslick, Blake Young, and Jason Perez on the grid, Aaron had to put the hammer down right from the start of the race. “Normally it takes me a few laps before I do my best times, but with these guys we were going at 100 percent right from the start. Riding with these guys really forced me to elevate my game plan because they are just so good,” commented Aaron Clark. After six fast laps, Clarkie, Tray Batey and Danny Eslick checked out on a deep field of talented riders. At the checkered flag Aaron Clark took home a solid third place podium finish, and his first WERA National Podium of the 2007 season. “Those were some brutal conditions to race in, but once again I had a great time racing at this track and racing with WERA! Tray and Danny were really flying out there, although I am really pleased with how well my Fay Myer’s Suzuki GSX-R1000 worked this weekend and how close it was at the end. We have a very good baseline setup now, and the hotter it got the better my Pirelli tires worked. Just like last weekend, if it were not for Josh Bryan of Tigershark Racing/Pirelli tires I would not be on this podium and I really appreciate his support.” MotoSix rider”s Aaron Clark and David Gallant will compete next with the MRA at Motorsports Park Hastings July 7th and 8th. If you ask California Superbike School sponsored racer Peter Lenz this weekend he would tell you two seconds off his lap times and six race wins. The California Superbike School’s founder Keith Code along with riding coach Misti Hurst have been coaching Lenz for several years. This past week Code and Hurst provided an updated curriculum for Lenz to work on to ensure the skills he had been taught were applied consistently and correctly”¦what resulted was nothing less than incredible. “The simple truth is that good techniques, that are flawlessly applied, build a solid foundation under any rider, young or old,” says Code. “The single digit age bracket isn’t immune to the identical problems that adults battle with. The rider is smaller, everything else is the same.” Once Lenz was able to apply the skills consistently he decreased his overall riding fatigue and dramatically improved his already track record setting times. Prior to the weekend Peter’s fastest time at the MAC (PKA Kart Track in McMinville, Oregon) was a 48.5, good enough for the 65cc class record. After spending a couple days applying the skills he learned through coaching he was able to take two full seconds off that time. “I think the coaching has really improved my riding. Changing my body position allowed me to carry more speed through the corners,” said Lenz. “My weekend went great. I had a really good race with my FNB Racing teammate Bennie Taylor and I turned my fastest lap while racing against his RS85. My 65 had a whole bunch of chatter but we were able to get rid of most of it. I was able to get on the throttle early enough to get a great drive and win.” The resulting improvements in riding skill carried across all three of his bikes and culminated in a dominating performance from Lenz as he took overall wins in all six of his classes. Racing success isn’t something new to him, he is currently leading the points in two mini road racing national championships and will be coached by Hurst at an upcoming mini road racing national. More, from a press release issued by TVR/Team Moe’s: Team Moe’s/TVR Uses Teamwork and Experience to Win at Miller Motorsports Park TOOELE, Utah Chuck Ivey, James Stroud and Josh Day were more than just the Team Moe’s/TVR riders during Saturday’s WERA National Endurance Series round at Miller Motorsports Park they were also the pit crew. Solid teamwork helped the skeleton crew take another Heavyweight Superstock victory and second overall. Ivey made the trek across the country with the Team Moe’s Yamaha YZF-R1 and equipment, driving from the team’s base in Augusta, Georgia. The bike was setup early in the weekend and the team was ready for the six-hour race. Day took the start for Team Moe’s, taking the lead even though it was his first time on Miller’s 3.06-mile track configuration. “I led for four or five laps, then Danny Eslick came by me on the front straight. I wasn’t worried about him because that team isn’t looking for a championship. I just kept riding my own race and tried to put pressure on Vesrah’s Tray Batey.” The real challenge began on the first pit stop. With only two crew members, the entire team had to pitch in: often, the rider getting off the bike had to change one wheel while the rider about to begin a stint had to change the other. “Our goal for the weekend was to be responsible and to do everything right, from riding to crewing,” said Ivey. “We have to thank Chris Cutright and Ray Turman for their invaluable help in the pits. Everyone really did double duty this weekend.” Although several local fast riders came out to challenge the endurance series at Miller, they were no match for an established team like Team Moe’s. “I think we have one of the best teams in the paddock,” said Ivey. “We might be small, but everyone works together and pitches in wherever they’re needed.” Stroud echoed the sentiment, saying, “We just took back the points lead during the last round and we want to hang onto it. We all felt confident on the bike, and the pit stops were amazing. There was really a lot of teamwork involved in our success this weekend, and our experience as an endurance team was vital.” Moe’s Southwest Grill serves fresh, healthy Mexican food with an emphasis on fast service and a fun atmosphere. The group of restaurants began in the Southeast U.S. and explosive growth over the past few years has made Moe’s Southwest Grill a household name. Moe’s locations can be found online at www.Moes.com. Fans can follow Team Moe’s quest for the Heavyweight Superstock title at www.TeamVelocityRacing.com. More, from a press release issued by West Coast GP Cycles: WEST COAST GP CYCLES RIDERS SWEEP UP TROPHIES AT WSMC West Coast GP Cycles racers took home an armful of trophies at the most recent round of Willow Springs Motorcycle Club racing on June 17, and a new rider flying the shop’s colors made an impressive debut. Chris Rogers took his West Coast GP Cycles-tuned Suzuki SV650 to a third place spot in the Golden Cantina 550cc Superbike race, and backed that up with a third in the West Coast GP Cycles Formula Twins Lightweight event. Tony Moniz took his KTM SMC625 supermotard to a pair of wins in Formula Singles and 660cc Singles, while Christopher Mackin took third place in the Formula 40 Lightweight and the Golden West Trailer Formula 2 races on his Kawasaki ZX-6RR. Riding a TwinWorks Factory-built, West Coast GP Cycles-developed Suzuki SV500, Michael Gougis took a third in 500cc Modified Production and a second in the Battle of the Twins Lightweight race. But one of the most impressive rides on the weekend was from West Coast GP Cycles newcomer Andrew Price. Selected last year for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup tryouts, the 16-year-old from Redondo Beach, California, who won the Southern California Mini Gran Prix Rookie of the Year Award in 2006 and that organization’s NSR Cup title in 2006, entered his first race ever on a four-stroke motorcycle this past weekend, riding a West Coast GP Cycles-prepped Suzuki SV650. From 18th dead last on the 501-650cc Novice grid, Price drove his twin up through the four-cylinder 600s to run as high as third before finishing in fifth an impressive debut on a big bike.
