Alexander LUNDH (Honda CBR600RR), 1:45.788 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: Provisional Pole for Eugene AFTER winning at Monza in Italy last Sunday Parkalgar Honda racer Eugene Laverty has piled more pressure on his rivals by taking provisional pole position at Kyalami in South Africa for this Sunday’s sixth round of the World Supersport Championship. In good weather conditions Miguel Praia suffered a crash in the morning session and ended up an uncharacteristic 17th in first qualifying with plenty of work to do tomorrow. The race takes place at 1330CET on Sunday 16th May and you can follow the progress of the team on www.parkalgarhonda.com. Eugene: “My Parkalgar Honda has been good from the word go, we have a decent setting from here last year to start with. We have worked on the chassis to help with the bumps; it feels more like a motocross track at times. Tomorrow we will concentrate on improving the bike under braking but to be honest we are not far away already. I still have to make my race tyre choice and will be focussing on that as well.” Miguel: “I crashed at the first corner on the first fast lap this morning – it was completely my fault and it cost me half a session. I wanted to go fast right from the start and went into the corner too quickly; but fortunately I am not injured and I must thank my team for preparing the second bike for me to use, it was good. While my position is not great I am OK as the gap to the second row is not much and if I had not lost the time on track I think I would have been there. I am optimistic for tomorrow.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “Eugene has a good fast pace at the moment and it appears along with Sofuoglu the pair of them have an advantage on everyone else. Miguel made a silly mistake on his first flying lap in the morning that cost him track time and that has reflected in his position. We have spoken and he will learn from it and tomorrow we expect him to be fighting further up the field.” More, from a press release issued by ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing: Great performance from Matthieu Lagrive, who posted the second fastest time at Kyalami today, just one tenth behind poleman Eugene Laverty. Given his latest results and especially the one scored today, the Frenchman is entitled to hope for a podium position on Sunday. Good performance from David Salom as well, who finished sixth, and will try to join his teammate in front row after tomorrow’s qualifying second session. Chaz Davies, eleventh and Jason Di Salvo, fifteenth only focused on learning the track, on which they have never raced before. MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 2nd in 1’41.418 : “I was very fast right away managing to set pole position intermediate times in the first two sections of the track. Tomorrow I’ll focus more on the last section and hopefully start from front row in the grid tomorrow”. DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 6th in 1’42.545 : “I immediately found a good setup, but I still have to work on the electronic part and improve it. I didn’t take any risks, because I have two more sessions left tomorrow”. CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 11th in 1’43.046 : “I started learning the track in the morning session, because I have never raced here before. Unfortunately, after making the right changes to the bike, I had to use the second one due to a small problem at the machine I was riding”. JASON DI SALVO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 15th in 1’43.480 : “Kyalami is a very technical track. I focused on what trajectories to take in order for me to be effective tomorrow. My goal is to qualify within the first three rows”. More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda; Both Hannspree Ten Kate Honda riders Kenan Sofuoglu and Michele Pirro set provisional front row lap times in today’s first qualifying session for the sixth round World Supersport championship race at Kyalami in South Africa. Sofuoglu, who currently lies in second place in the 2010 points standings, set the third fastest time after attacking the 4.263km circuit early on in the session. His team-mate, Pirro, rounded out the provisional front row with fourth place despite being taken out by another rider later in the session. The 23-year-old was even able to improve his lap time and position in the final three minutes with a gash in his left forearm. Kenan Sofuoglu P3 It was hard work this afternoon because it was very warm at the end of the day and the track is so bumpy that it is very physical to ride fast here. We have been trying different set ups today, changing both the gearing and the suspension and it has gone quite well. My ideal time is good and so is the race pace. It’s quite close, however, so there is still some more work to do tomorrow. Michele Pirro P4 Well, the feeling with the bike definitely improved this afternoon and everything was going quite well until a local wildcard rider took me out near the end of the session. It was quite unnecessary because it’s only Friday afternoon but at least I was able to put in a better time afterwards on my spare CBR. We are not there yet with the balance of the bike but, apart from the crash, everything was OK today.
