Tommy Hayden (Suz GSX-R1000 K9), 2:16.050 More, from a press release issued by Michael Jordan Motorsports: NATIONAL GUARD JORDAN SUZUKI BACK ON THE FRONT ROW AT ROAD AMERICA ELKHART LAKE, WI (June 5, 2009) Under beautiful blue skies at Road America, Michael Jordan Motorsports rider Geoff May put his #54 National Guard Jordan Suzuki on the front row for the fourth time in six rounds. With temperatures hovering in the low 60s, May’s Superpole lap was a mere .2 seconds slower than his Basic Qualifying time and he retained his important front row positioning for Saturday and Sunday’s National Guard American Superbike races. May has shown impressive form all season in the AMA Pro Racing Superpole rounds and continued that trend today at the massive Elkhart Lake circuit. Aaron Yates of the #23 Jordan Suzuki team also made the exclusive Superpole session by finishing in P6 in Basic Qualifying earlier in the day. Prior to Superpole, the #23 team made a host of changes to the Suzuki GSX-R1000 but the gamble did not pay off during the one lap flying qualifier. In typical Yates fashion, he kept the throttle pinned and had only dropped one spot by the conclusion of Superpole, finishing in P7. The Georgia-born rider will start Saturday and Sunday’s American Superbike races from the second row of the grid. Geoff May 4th 2:14.280 – National Guard Jordan Suzuki #54 “It’s really good to be back on the front row after missing it back at Infineon,” May said. “It takes a few laps to get into a rhythm here at Road America and that makes it tough for the one lap Superpole. That said, I didn’t think I’d pull the time I did due to a few small mistakes during the run. We have some data to go over tonight and my National Guard Jordan Suzuki will be ready come race time tomorrow.” Aaron Yates – 7th 2:15.121 – Jordan Suzuki #23 “We made some changes to the setup and it just didn’t work out,” said Yates. “In addition, I was really focused on my corner entries and it ended up hindering my drives out of them. Just over-thinking really. We got a direction on the setup, however, and that’ll help get us dialed in for the races.”
