ASRA Team Challenge

Moon Stronger Than Earthly Storms

With the predictions of 45-50 mph gusts accompanied by tornados and 1″-2″ of rain, it was obvious the weather was going to play an important part in Round 2 of the ASRA Team Challenge Championship. Only 14 of the original 24 teams took the grid after a night and morning of heavy thunderstorms and torrential rain made the less hearty competitors withdraw from the event.

Good fortune smiled down on the event as the race started at noon under dry and cloudy conditions and only saw one small band of light rain passing through right at the halfway point. Earlier predictions that the Solo class would lead the way were proven false after the earlier leader Ben Walters faded and the #3 Moon Cycle Repsol GTO squad of Rick Beggs, Calvin Martinez and Paul Gilchrist set the pace from the 23rd lap on to the win with the red-flag on lap 58. Keeping pace with the Moon’s team was the #717 Mid-Illini group with Mitch Stein, Scott Harwood (who rode last season with Moon’s) and Dr. Jeff Purk, the only team to finish on the same lap as the Overall and GTO winner Moon’s Cycle Repsol. Rounding out the top three Overall and GTO was the #24 team, Chucktown Moto with Kenny Rodriguez, Matt Huber, and Mark Regalbut aboard.

Other class winner were the GTL team Mighty Lumina Racing (William Davenport and Arnie Hastings), GTU winners RNR Cycles (Rachel Sasse, Jason Gibbens and Ed Rodriguez) and with his first national win ever, it was the #707 Dafanz Tuning rider Krishna Pribadi, dominating the Solo class by 3 laps over second-place Gary Cain.

Now it’s on to Heartland Park Topeka April 27 for Round 3 of the Series. For more information and complete results visit our website at www.ccsracing.us and go to the results page.
