TIE, Sebastien Charpentier/Boscoscuro/Paola Cazzola, 3 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: Third win in a row for Laverty PARKALGAR HONDA’S Eugene Laverty scored his first ever hat-trick three-victories in a row when he won the sixth round of the World Supersport Championship at Kyalami in South Africa, leading from the first lap to the chequered flag – making it four wins out of six starts this season. Miguel Praia dug deep and finished a competitive 10th to round off a good day for the Portuguese circuit backed Parkalgar Honda team. The next round of the Championship is in the USA at Miller Motorsports Park on Monday May 31st. Eugene: “Kenan kept me honest for the first half of the race but my Parkalgar Honda was very good and was managing the tyre well so I was able to push and go for a break in the second half. I think at the same time Kenan’s tyre was starting to wear which helped. This is my first ever three wins on the trot in any Championship and it has been a long time coming. It’s nice to leave here almost leading the Championship, it is all to play for now in the second half of the season.” Miguel: “That was much better in the race. Mark Woodage made some changes to my Parkalgar Honda after qualifying and immediately in warm-up I was faster. My team has done a fantastic job, thank you. My pace was good in the middle of the race and I caught the group in front and passed them but then I lost a little rear grip and couldn’t go with Salom. I then lost ninth place to Rea on the last corner but this does not hide the fact it was a good race for me and much better than last year. I also feel we have made a good change to my bike that will help in future races, I am confident.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “Eugene rode the perfect race and although Kenan put pressure on him he controlled it from the front; it was fantastic. We have broke the pole position duck by winning from the front and that means it doesn’t matter where we qualify in the future. We are only one-point off the lead of the Championship and the whole team did a great job. Miguel did ride well today and showed desire and ambition. He beat some good people and now we need to get him focussed on bringing that performance to practice and qualifying so he can step up and be fighting with the group in front.” More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda: Kenan Sofuoglu finished second in today’s sixth round World Supersport championship race at Kyalami in South Africa, taking the lead in the points standings by a single point from race winner, Eugene Laverty. Sofuoglu’s Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Michele Pirro, finished in fourth place after 23 laps of the 4.263km circuit just north of Johannesburg. Taking the holeshot from second place on the grid, Sofuoglu battled with Laverty for the early laps before the Honda-mounted Irishman put in a small break, which he extended to four seconds by the flag. Pirro, meanwhile, displayed good pace in the early laps before succumbing to a sore arm and shoulder sustained in a practice crash on Friday afternoon. Kenan Sofuoglu 2nd It certainly wasn’t an easy race and, in the beginning, it wasn’t a problem to stay with Eugene. As the race progressed, I tried to push to close the gap but ended up nearly losing the front a few times, so I said to myself, “OK, let’s take the podium and the points.” I think we’ll be stronger with the CBR in the last part of the season. I’ll still try to take maximum points from every race, but I have to say big congratulations to Eugene, because today he really did a very good job. Michele Pirro 4th I hurt my left shoulder in the crash on Friday and after ten laps today I was really in a lot of pain and found it very difficult to change direction. It wasn’t too bad in the early laps but when Davies went past me it was very hard for me to respond, especially when the tyre was gone later in the race. However, the bike felt really good today and I am very happy to finish the race again. I will try hard to get back to the podium now in the next few races. Ronald ten Kate team-man ager Well, the aim of course was to win today’s race and put both our riders on the podium. Although that didn’t happen, we’re still in a positive mood. We’re leading the championship now and getting closer to the second half of the season. That’s significant because we will have the suspension and set-up data from the second half of last year following our switch to Andreani Ohlins suspension. I think it’s fair to say that we should be stronger with that knowledge. More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Joan Fifth After Hardest Race Of 2010 Joan Lascorz ended his Kyalami weekend just a handful of points from the championship lead despite finishing fifth and off the podium for the first time in 2010. The Spanish rider could not get his set-up to match the tricky and very bumpy Kyalami circuit and no matter how hard he rode he could not keep the leading riders in his sights after qualifying eighth on the grid. Katsuaki Fujiwara (Kawasaki Motocard.com) was a front row qualifier but he too struggled to keep race pace and he slid back down the field from fourth in the first laps to an eventual 12th place, fighting for every place as the race wore on. With good grip from his tyres Katsuaki could keep up forward progress but as soon as the grip was reduced by the intensity of race pace and the track conditions, he slid back. Kats is now tenth in the standings, with a nine point cushion to take to the next race. At the seventh round in America on May 31 each official Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R rider will be looking for a real improvement in their prospects as the Miller track is very different from Kyalami, even if it is another high-altitude circuit. Joan Lascorz: “We made some changes this morning and it was not so bad in the race but we lost some front grip very early, after three or four laps, so I could not push or brake hard. I am not satisfied with this finish and we lost some points but we knew that this track would be one of the worst ones for us; we saw that last year was very hard. We have to keep working and we will be fighting with them next time in America.” Katsuaki Fujiwara: “At the beginning we were good and also in qualifying. I got off the line OK and the first four or five laps it was fine. But when we have less grip the bike does not like turning on this track. The surface is very bumpy and has little grip. The bumps start the bike to slide and it is hard to keep our best pace. I fought hard, we all did this weekend, and now we will restart in Miller.”
