Sam Lowes was fifth in qualifying as he worked hard on re-learning the track and setting up his Parkalgar Honda. He has a good direction and is looking for the front row in final qualifying. There are additional practice and qualifying sessions tomorrow before the race takes place at 1330CET on Sunday July 10th. Miguel: “The first session was good but in the afternoon the conditions changed a little. The difference in time to the second row is not so big and I think it is possible to qualify there tomorrow. My Parkalgar Honda is very good here and I am confident for this weekend.” Sam: “We are still working on the setting and gearing for my Parkalgar Honda, so fifth is pretty good. I feel there is a lot more to come from the bike and I definitely know there is more to come from me. We have been really consistent today and I’ve done more laps in the 2m04s bracket than anybody else. I am happy enough and we know what we need to do to make a big step tomorrow. I feel good now and we can move forward from here.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “Miguel has had another good day and in 13th he continues to impress and build on his recent performances. Both he and his bike can improve more and shall be challenging for the first three rows tomorrow. “Sam is right there in contention, his race pace is consistent and we have gearing options we want to try for the twisty sections. It is tight at the front but we are confident we can challenge for pole position in final qualifying.” More, from a press release issued by Bogdanka PTR Honda: BOGDANKA PTR HONDA’S Pawel Szkopek is 19th on the provisional grid and is sure he can lower his lap times tomorrow during qualifying ahead of his home World Supersport race at Brno in the Czech Republic on Sunday 10th July. James Ellison on the second Bogdanka PTR Honda is 14th and confident he can challenge the front two rows after finding good settings for his bike in the final minutes of today’s opening qualifying. Superstock 1000 rider, Marcin Walkowiak, was 29th and is looking to improve. Pawel Szkopek: “We’ve made some big changes after the first session and I was able to go much faster right away. We can still improve the front a little bit but we have some ideas for tomorrow and I’m happy after the opening day. I lost two positions in the final minutes of the qualifying but I’m not worried as I have a very good race pace and feel confident.” James Ellison: “We struggled a little bit this morning but we’ve found the right combination of tyres and suspension at the end of the qualifying session. I only did three laps with the good settings which wasn’t enough to get into a good rhythm but it was easy to improve the times so I’m very confident we can go much quicker tomorrow.” Marcin Walkowiak: “I’m not happy with my lap times today. We need to change the gearing for tomorrow and adjust the suspension. However, the team is working really hard to give me the best bike and since I know this track well, I’m hopeful we can go much faster tomorrow.” Simon Buckmaster: “Pawel’s had a strong first day and the momentum is going in the right direction. As long as we can get in the top 16 tomorrow he’ll be in a position to challenge for his best ever result and set a new record for Polish motorcycle racing. “James struggled to get a good feel in practice and most of qualifying. At the end he found a good setting and his bike is doing what he wants. He wants to complete a lot of laps now that he is happy with the bike settings and the team needs to see real commitment from him in qualifying tomorrow.” More, from a press release issued by Yamaha ParkinGO Team: Difficult start of the weekend for Yamaha ParkinGO Team. Luca Scassa and Chaz Davies finished today the seventh round of the Supersport World Championship in ninth and tenth position. Surely a result that will improve as both riders are convinced to have still time to get better positions once they solve the problems of set up that have stop them today. They will need tomorrow both sessions to try the different solutions that the mechanics are working on, even with the possibility of rain forecasted for the second day of qualifying. Luca Scassa – Yamaha YZF R6 #9 – “It hasn’t been an easy day. To be fast in this track you need to get into the corners with full gas, and at the moment this is my problem as I am not able to keep the racing line. Thanks to the data though today we will try to understand the origin of this and try tomorrow the possible different solutions.” Chaz Davies – Yamaha YZF R6 #7 – “I haven’t been able to have a good feeling with the front of the bike. I have bit of chattering problem and is not allowing me get into the corners as I want. I really like this track and I am convinced that once we solve it I will be able to improve my position and reduce the gap”.” More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda: Fabien Foret set the third fastest time in today’s opening qualifying session for round seven of the 2011 World Supersport championship at Brno in the Czech Republic. The Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider lapped the 5.403km Brno circuit in a time of 2m03.941s, just three tenths behind provisional pole sitter Broc Parkes. Foret won the Brno World Supersport race two years ago and is keen to repeat his triumph and return to winning ways on the Honda CBR600RR. His fellow Frenchman, Florian Marino, was 12th fastest in today’s qualifying session, which was run in the dry despite the threat of rain. The 18-year-old knows where he and the bike need to improve to get closer to the front in tomorrow afternoon’s final qualifying. Fabien Foret P3, 2m03.941s We tried something quite different this morning and went the wrong way, but sometimes you have to try these things and accept one step backward to make two steps forward. I was happy with the way we found a direction this afternoon and started to enjoy riding the bike and to have some fun. I felt that I could start to push but we didn’t go for a fast lap on a soft tyre because that was not my main aim for the session. I think tomorrow we can make another step and become even more competitive but we are heading in the right direction. Florian Marino P12, 2m05.358s We lost most of the session this morning because the front was not working so good. I got a better feeling this afternoon but the session went by so fast! When I got back to put in a fresh tyre there was only six minutes left and it felt like the front didn’t really want to keep the line I wanted. I am sure that we can improve things tonight to give me a better feeling to attack tomorrow.
