STIRLING, ON – Two of the most successful racers in Canadian Superbike history will take the battle for the 2007 Parts Canada Superbike Championship down to the wire at Shannonville Motorsport Park this weekend. Brantford, Ont.’s Jordan Szoke enters the final round of the seven-race series with a 26-point lead over Maple Ridge, B.C.’s Steve Crevier, 262-236, following Crevier’s victory at the previous round at Atlantic Motorsport Park. A race win is worth 50 points. The 28-year-old Szoke, racing for the Canadian Kawasaki Motors factory team is aiming for his second straight Parts Canada Superbike crown and trying to become only the second rider to claim four national titles. Competing aboard the Team Toyota Yamaha / Fast Company Yamaha, the 42-year-old Crevier is bidding for a record-extending seventh national Superbike title. Crevier and Szoke are also 1-2 in all-time Canadian Superbike wins, with 25 and 23 respectively. Also in the hunt for the championship is Suzuki Acceleration Racing’s Clint McBain, who comes to Shannonville just 11 points behind Crevier with 225. The Cochrane, Alta. rider, looking for his first Superbike title, has a win this year to his credit and was third at AMP in the previous round. Granby, Que.’s Kevin Lacombe doesn’t have a shot at the title but could play spoiler for one of the other contenders. The Team Toyota Yamaha / Brooklin Cycle rider won last year’s season finale at Shannonville and is fourth in the standings with 210 points. Many eyes will also be on Szoke’s 15-year-old teammate Brett McCormick, who has already locked up the HJC Pro Rookie of the Year title and sits fifth in the Superbike standings. The Team Suzuki / Blackfoot / Picotte Performance Suzuki team will be looking to rebound from a rough weekend at AMP. Francis Martin of Sherbrooke, QC and Granby’s Pascal Picotte are seventh and eighth, respectively in the standings. Martin suffered a fall in the previous event and Picotte is coming off injuries suffered earlier this year in Calgary. Two Shannonville specialists could also spring a surprise in the form of Z1 Cycletech Yamaha’s Andrew Nelson of Nepean, ON and Vaughan, ON rider Frank Trombino aboard the ProStar Motorsports Suzuki. Titles will also be settled in the other four national classes this weekend. Szoke leads Crevier by 19 points, 258-239 in the Yoshimura Pro 600 Sport Bike battle while Suzuki rider Paul Glenn of Keene, Ont. comes in with an 11-point lead, 197-186 over Oak Lake, Man. Kawasaki racer Israel Johnas in International Motorcycle SUPERSHOW Amateur 600 Sport Bike action. In the closest championship fight, Buell rider Michael Leon of Beaconsfield, Que. leads BMW’s Michael Taylor of Toronto by just five points, 242-237 in the Thunder twins class, and Montreal’s Martin Grande leads Orangeville, Ont. racer Derek Vammus by 34 points, 279-245 in the Suzuki SV650 National Cup. Practice for all five national classes opens Friday with qualifying, including the battle for the Inside Motorcycles Pole Award, set for Saturday afternoon. Races are scheduled to go Sunday. Working with John Bickle from Bickle Racing, Ross Millson spent some time at Toronto Motorsports Park coaching at team sponsor Turn 2 Sportbike Rentals Advanced Riding Course. Also taking the course were team sponsor Mike Rice from Infinet Designs and assistant team trainer Mike Hallman. This event also allowed Millson, competing in his rookie season in the Pro 600 and Pro Superbike classes, to pass on some of his knowledge on riding technique and allowed him some more seat time in advance of the final round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship. Glenn, who takes an 11 point lead into the final weekend of the AM 600 class, is focused on a strong finish to his AM 600 season that could see him win the championship in his rookie season. Glenn has had an outstanding season to date finishing no lower than 4th in the first five races. Round 7 of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship kicks off for Go Big Racing with test sessions on August 31 at Shannonville Motorsports Park and wraps up with final races on the afternoon of Sunday, September 2nd.
