Continuing his unbelievable form, Joey Pascarella on his LTD Yamaha lowered the previous year’s qualifying time by almost two seconds as he tries to extend his dominance of the AMA Pro SuperSport Young Guns class. Pascarella posted a time of 1:30.926/100.961 MPH which compares to the previous year’s pole time of 1:32.072. The only rider to top him during a race this year, Cameron Beaubier, was back on the track with his Rockwall Yamaha and he continued his charge by posting the second fastest time of 1:31.127/100.738 MPH. Cameron’s Rockwall Yamaha teammate J.D. Beach took third, followed by Travis Wyman on his Yamaha YZF-R6. Pascarella’s LTD Yamaha teammate Huntley Nash was fifth ahead of another LTD Yamaha rider, Tomas Puerta, who recovered nicely from a morning mechanical issue to take sixth place on the provisional grid. Once again, Elena Myers showed her excellent pace by finishing the session seventh on her Richie Morris Racing Roadracingworld.com Suzuki just ahead of James Rispoli on his Suzuki. Miles Thornton, riding his own team’s Suzuki, took ninth ahead of Top Gun rider James Dellinger on his Suzuki, who took tenth overall. Pascarella said the challenging Road Atlanta circuit suited his style and attributed his impressive speed and riding to his team, his training and his motorcycle. More, from a press release issued by LTD Racing: PASCARELLA AND LTD RACING ON PROVISIONAL SUPERSPORT POLE AT ROAD ATLANTA Braselton, Ga (April 16, 2010) — LTD Racing’s Joey Pascarella earned provisional pole on Friday at Road Atlanta. The winner of three of four 2010 AMA Pro Racing SuperSport events once again put forth a blistering pace on Friday at the undulating Georgia circuit. Pascarella’s lap of 1:30.926 not only set the mark in the AMA Pro SuperSport class but it would have been a respectable time in the Daytona SportBike class. Joey’s LTD Racing teammates Huntley Nash, Tomas Puerta, and Sam Nash also showed promise on the opening day at the Atlanta-area team’s home race. Pascarella’s time was more than a second faster than last year’s SuperSport pole at Road Atlanta. “I like the track and it suits me. The hills and the flowing nature fit right in with my riding style,” said the Vacaville, California resident. “I’ve gotten a lot faster in the past year. I didn’t think my lap was going to be that fast but I looked down at my timer and saw it was a ’30. I led the race here last year for a lot of it before getting third. I’ve been training a whole lot and that’s helped me out. The team has put a lot of effort in and working with Gary (Medley) on our suspension has been really good for me, too.” Huntley Nash had a trying day, but showed great speed. He started out the opening session quickly, continuing his fantastic Fontana momentum, but had a machine issue and a crash which robbed him of track time. Nash and the LTD Racing crew rebounded and Nash set fifth quickest time in qualifying with a lap of 1:32.998. “The first session started out good for a couple of laps but the brake pads glazed over and I went down in turn six,” said Nash, of Marietta, Georgia. “The team did a great job of getting the bike back together. I missed the first few laps of qualifying but then I put down a few laps and put in a respectable lap. I think I can drop another second and get up to the front row tomorrow.” Tomas Puerta earned sixth, just behind his teammate, but was disappointed not to be higher in the order in his first race back since his Daytona podium. “The first practice, we had some problems with the bike. In qualifying, it was better but we are still looking for a solution with the front of the bike,” said Puerta, from Medellin, Colombia. “We have some ideas and hopefully we will be able to improve to the front row. It should be good.” Sam Nash was 11th with a lap of 1:34.518 and right in the mix with the other Top Gun competitors. Nash earned the mark of best Top Gun in the second race in Daytona last month and wants even more at his home track. “It took me a while to get loose and there’s still a couple of places on the track where I am looking to improve,” said Marietta, Georgia’s Nash. “I dropped a good amount of time, but so did everyone else. I’m right there with the other Top Guns but my real goal is to run with the fastest guys. It’s going to be a good couple of races and I am looking forward to the next two days.”
