AMA Pro Geoff May was photographed testing a pair of Buell racebikes during a NESBA track day Saturday, April 24 at Road America. According to Gron4 Photography’s Andy Gronfor, the weather conditions on the day were the worst he has ever seen at the track, with pouring rain and ambient temperature peaking at about 50 degrees F. In the photos, one bike is seen carrying stickers required for participation in AMA American Superbike and is one of the 1125RR bikes raced to top-10 finishes by Taylor Knapp and Cory West at New Jersey Motorsports Park in September, 2009. A different bike is seen in another photo, and is an 1190RR Superbike which was not homologated for the 2010 AMA American Superbike season. Reached by phone, May said that long-time AMA Superbike tuner Dennis Zickrick was at the test, directing May’s crew. May said that Zickrick has relocated from Colorado to Wisconsin and is living in his motorhome, which is parked at Erik Buell Racing headquarters in East Troy, Wisconsin. Michael Tjon, who worked as May’s 600cc Supersport Crew Chief in 2007, as Blake Young’s Supersport Crew Chief in 2008, and as Jason DiSalvo’s Daytona SportBike Crew Chief for most of 2009, is in the process of moving from Tennessee to Wisconsin to work for Erik Buell Racing, May said. May said he will make his debut as a Buell racer aboard an 1125RR during the upcoming AMA Superbike weekend at Infineon Raceway, May 14-16, and will then race an 1190RR in the AMA-sanctioned, UtahSBA-operated Lucas Oil Superbike Challenge GTO race scheduled as a support event during the World Superbike weekend at Miller Motorsports Park, May 29-31.
