Former USGPRU 125cc National Champion and current CEV/Spanish 125cc National competitor Patrick “P.J.” Jacobsen will make his AMA Pro debut next weekend at the AMA Pro Road Racing event at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Jacobsen, a New York native who turned 16 earlier this month, told Roadracingworld.com Friday that he intends to race an American Honda-supplied CBR600RR with backing from Celtic Racing and Orient Express in the AMA Pro SuperSport class for riders age 16 to 21 years. “AMA is a good paddock,” Jacobsen told Roadracingworld.com, “but we are just this one race with Barry [Gilsenan, Celtic Racing Team Owner] and Orient Express just for the fun of the weekend. My main goal, though is to get to MotoGP.” Last year at Indianapolis Jacobsen became the youngest American to ever race in a World Championship event. Riding as a wild card, he finished 22nd in the 125cc Grand Prix. He is currently in the middle of a two-month break in the CEV Spanish Championship, where he races an Aprilia 125 for the Bancaja-sponsored Team Aspar. Jacobsen is currently eighth in that Championship, 30 points behind series leader Alberto Bernal with four rounds remaining.
