The results of the 65th Daytona 200 by Honda have been protested by the Yamaha factory team, according to AMA Pro Racing Series Manager for Road Racing Ron Barrick. Barrick mentioned the protest during a short press conference held in the Daytona media center at approximately 8:00 p.m. local time. The press conference was called so AMA Pro Racing could issue a statement on its use of a pace car during the Daytona 200 and answer questions from the media. In that statement, AMA Pro Racing said “pace car procedures were not able to be fully implemented…” Barrick would not go into the specifics of Yamaha’s protest, but AMA Pro Racing’s statement said the outcome of the race was not affected by the use of the pace car. After the race, some riders expressed to reporters that they felt their results were negatively affected by AMA Pro Racing not follwing proper pace car procedures. AMA Pro road racing only uses a pace car at Daytona International Speedway during the Daytona 200. UPDATE: At approximately 8:50 p.m. local time, it was announced in the media center that all three of Yamaha’s protests had been denied and found without merit based on video evidence, and the results of the 65th Daytona 200 by Honda were declared “official.”
