Ben Spies (Suz GSX-R600), no times More, from a press release issued by Pirelli: Pirelli Wins Front Row Positions for Super Races (Supersport and Superstock) Racer Geoff May started Saturday at Virginia International Raceway with the sixth-fastest time in Superstock practice, on his big Suzuki with big, devilishly sticky Pirelli Diablo Superbike Slicks. May’s M4 EMGO Suzuki GSX-R1000 was the second fastest Suzuki in the session. Other Pirelli riders in the session’s top 15 were John Haner in 12th, Chris Ulrich in 14th, with Matt Lynn just nudged into the 16th-fastest position. May then shot toward the front in Superstock qualifying, putting his Suzuki on the front row of the grid in third, by way of his DOT-spec SuperCorsa Pros. Lynn, Haner and Ulrich qualified 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively, with Cory West joining that trio of Pirelli riders with his 16th-place qualifying position for Sunday’s challenge. Pirelli front-runner Geoff May backed up his leading time in Friday’s Supersport practice with ownership of the second-fastest time on Saturday. His M4 EMGO Suzuki teammate, Michael Barnes, set sixth fastest time in the session. Other Supersport racers on Pirelli SuperCorsa Pro tires were privateers Michael Beck and Shea Fouchek, each continuing to show the promise of their talents, setting 13th and 14th fastest times respectively, heading into the afternoon’s Supersport qualifying. Beck races a Graves Motorsports-sponsored Yamaha YZF-R6, while Fouchek is on an M4 EMGO Suzuki-prepared GSX-R600. In Supersport qualifying, Geoff May was the quickest Suzuki, claiming the number-two spot, with teammate Michael Barnes joining May on the front row, as fourth fastest. In final Superbike qualifying, the four factory riders trailing John Haner’s fifth-place qualifying position during Friday’s round, found their speed, giving Haner and his Millennium KWS Suzuki a third-row grid position in 11th. Haner’s teammate Matt Lynn claimed 14th on the grid. In Saturday’s Superbike Race One, Lynn jumped to 12th, holding the position until his bike became misdirected and momentarily unpiloted. Privateer Cory West ran a consistent pace to bring his Hotbodies Racing Suzuki home in 13th. Saturday’s mid-day, extremely hot Formula Xtreme practice saw Michael Barnes set fifth-fastest time, preparing for the afternoon’s FX final. Barnes started the race on his Pirelli SuperCorsa Pro-shod Suzuki from the number-three paint mark on the front row, nailing his start to preserve his now-dynamic third place, for two laps. Following that, Barnes spent much of the race in a battle for fourth, eventually finishing fifth, merely .629 seconds behind fourth, and 13 seconds ahead of sixth.
