In the third round of the WSMC road race series San Diegian Kenny Kopecky rode his Ducati Oceanside prepared 749R and 999R racebikes to seven top 5 race finishes, with wins in the BOTT Middleweight, BOTT Heavyweight and Formula Twins classes.
At the end of a sunny and breezy race day Kenny said “With more bad weather here in Southern California we didn’t get any practice Friday at all and only a brief session on each bike Saturday, so we just mounted up some new Dunlop slicks and waited for the Sunday races using our same settings from January. We feel room for improvement and after these first three events I’m honestly looking forward to the hot summer months out in the desert!”
Kopecky was able to stay close to the leaders early in both 650 Superbike and Formula Two on the 749 but the pace of the top WSMC racers was faster then he could maintain. He said “It was neat to see Jason Perez, Mickey Lane and Michael Beck for a few laps in the Superbike race…those young guys are riding so well and it’ll be a chore to get on their level but we’ll give it a try”. Ducati Oceanside is expecting the factory motor kit to become available soon and is hoping that will encourage their rider further. Kenny added “The stock bike is great but to compete at that level we’ll need a little more. With the recent announcement by Ducati North America of their new contingency program that will assist us to reach that higher level with the 749. I’m looking forward to the opportunity and wish to thank them for their support of Ducati road racers here in the U.S.”
The next WSMC roadrace meet is April 15-17, 2005.

TRACKDAZ RIDER JACOB WEST RACKING POINTS AT WSMC
It was another in a long line of great weekends in the high desert for TrackDaz rider Jacob West.
West, a staff rider for TrackDaz, made his return to racing seven months ago after nearly a three year layoff, and has dominated from the get-go. He has won 5 of 6 races this year in 750 Superbike and 750 Modified Production — just one race from perfection in those 2 750 classes – including 2 more wins on Sunday March 20. West and Richie Thorup battled it out with Thorup passing West a few times during the day. Each time, however, West prevailed across the stripe for the checkered flag.
West also finished 5th in the premier Toyota Cup Formula 1 class to net more points, and keep himself solidly in the top 10. Look for Jacob to be standing on the top of the box soon.
“It was a bunch of fun out there on Sunday. Some little problems here and there — not to mention dealing with rain on and off this weekend. Thankfully, Sunday was dry, and I could go out and rock around the track,” said West. With trips to the podium becoming a frequent result, you better believe it’s rockin’ for him!!!
TrackDaz co-owner, Dustin Coyner also made a nice showing, with his best finish to date in the Expert ranks, nabbing a 4th in 600 Modified Production.
Congratulations to Jacob and Dustin!!!!! Jacob – keep those trips to the podium coming.

Round three at the WSMC event turned out to be a great weekend for Jason Perez and the Rojo Racing team. With five wins, two in the 600 classes, and three in the open classes, Perez was on the bike more than he was off it. There wasn’t a much time for the team to prepare for the Willow event being we didn’t get our bikes back from Daytona till Wednesday. It was a scramble to get the R6 together, since Jason highsided during the Daytona 200 event in which he placed sixth. The R6 had what seemed to be only cosmetic damage to it, so after the race, we quickly loaded the equipment, left Daytona for the long drive back to northern California to prep for the third round at Willow. With only a short amount of time and the much needed help from our sponsors, we managed to acquire all the parts needed like bodywork, sub frame, and exhaust, to get the bike ready for the track. Saturday arrived, and with weather that was not cooperating, Jason could only get a few dry sessions on the track. After practicing in those few sessions, he could not get comfortable on the R6. Dave Perez, Jason’s dad/team owner/mechanic, said “I’m assuming that there is a problem with the frame and Mackie would take a look at it after the weekend.”
Sunday arrived, and the weather looked like it would cooperate, even though the clouds loomed in the horizon. Jason ran the best he could on the R6 pulling out a couple of important wins in 600 Superstock, and 650 Superbike. In the open classes the R1 ran flawless; winning the Superstock, Superbike and Formula One races. Since the February round at WSMC, we replaced the stock shock with an Ohlin’s (re-valved by GP suspension). Thanks to Dave Hodges from GP Suspension, Jason was very comfortable on the R1. Jason stated “the R1 handles great in the wind.” Despite the typical March winds, Perez was running in the 22’s and low 23’s, during the Formula One race, with the help of some of the new rubber from Dunlop. The tires used for this race, “looked great” according to Dennis Smith, of SportTire Services. Jason commented “we couldn’t have done it without the help of Dennis, Gabe and all the Sport Tire Services crew!”
