Markus Reiterberger, who raced here before, was faster with the sixteenth position. The weather was quite good today, which was helpful for the riders. The first day was used mostly to set up the bikes, as this is the first race of the season. Born on October 22, 1986, Beau Beaton comes from Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia. On Michel Garnier’s request, Steve Martin, endurance World Champion and adviser to the team, suggested Beau who has been riding motorcycles since the young age of 3. In 2010 Beau took on Superstock 1000 A & B Grade category alongside the Australian Superbikes. With a mechanical DNF in the first round at Phillip Island, Beau climbed his way back to take out the 2010 ASBK Superstock 1000 B Grade title. Born on March 9, 1994, in Trotsberg, Germany, Markus Reiterberger has been the overall winner of the Yamaha-R6-Dunlop-Cup in 2010 in Germany. Racing people started noticing him when he finished 11th in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2008. Markus is this year the only German rider, all categories (Superbike, Supersport, and Superstock 1000) together. Born on February 28, 1991 in Champagnol (France) Randy Pagaud finished fourth of the Pirelli 600 Trophy in France in 2010. Then he became part of Michel Garnier’s Superstock 1000 team for the last two races of 2010 in Imola and Magny-Cours. That’s when he discovered the class, carefully and building his experience step by step. Michel Garnier (team owner): “The afternoon session was a little bit negative for us because we had some fork problems. We could not solve this problem today so we saved the new tyres for tomorrow. We shall try to improve to qualify well on Saturday. Our problem must be solved for Monza. We would have appreciated to have here the assistance that was promised to us by Bitubo.” Markus Reiterberger: “The practice session was OK. We changed a few things after the morning session and it was good, better than before. The top speed was very good. The bike is sometime difficult to ride in the corners. We are looking forward to improve.” Beau Beaton: “We had a few difficulties, like finding a good setting and feeling comfortable on the bike. Of course it’s a new track for me so I am still learning the track. It’s very fast. That’s OK, we are still working on gearing, fork settings, spring settings, little things like that that will make a difference.” Randy Pagaud: “This was my first time on this track this morning and it was not easy because it’s a fast track. If you miss one corner, it’s a disadvantage for the next one. This afternoon, we started with a better set up and it helped. We need to improve the bike a little bit and I have to find a good rhythm. I have a good feeling on the bike, I am happy to be here and it will be better tomorrow.” More, from a press release issued by Althea Racing: GIUGLIANO (ALTHEA RACING) TAKES PROVISIONAL POLE IN THE SUPRSTOCK 1000 CATEGORY AT THE TT CIRCUIT ASSEN Assen (The Netherlands), Friday 15th April 2011: Davide Giugliano and the Althea Racing Team have started the 2011 season in the best possible way, closing first qualifying in first position, with a very good pace. In the morning’s free practice session, both Giugliano and his team-mate Lorenzo Baroni showed their determination, quickly getting into a good rhythm despite fairly cold temperatures. Both Althea riders closed this first session inside the top five. Later in the day, in the first qualifying session, both riders continued to make good progress, moving close to the top of the timesheets after only a few minutes. Giugliano, with a very fast pace concluded the qualifying session ahead of the pack, recording a best time of 1m39.538, four tenths faster than Barrier in second position. Only Giugliano and Barrier were able to lap under 1m40 today. Davide’s team-mate Baroni also made great improvement this afternoon, lowering his best time of the morning by around a second to close first qualifying in fourth place. We worked hard to arrive at a solution that, for a Friday, I consider to be very good and bearing in mind too that these are our first real sessions. All three riders spent both the practice and qualifying sessions exploring the limits of their new Kawasaki bikes. This was the second opportunity for the riders, after last Sunday’s Italian Championship race in Misano, to experience the performance of the new Ninja ZX-10R and work on the set up of their bikes ahead of race day. In the morning free practice Staring and Mercado spent the entire session getting better acquainted with the track, because it was their first visit to Assen. Bussolotti unfortunately did not participate in the free practice because yesterday he forgot to attend the compulsory briefing and was thus penalized. Staring reached fourteenth place (1’42″840) while Mercado obtained the nineteenth position (1’43″842). In the afternoon qualifying session Staring (1’41″391) and Mercado (1’41″804) improved on their best lap times set in the morning to reach respectively twelfth and eighteenth position. For Marco Bussolotti this was the first session of the weekend; he finished in nineteenth place (1’42″551) Marco Bussolotti : “I missed out on the morning’s free practice and this afternoon it took me quite a few laps to understand how my bike worked on this circuit. I did not push it very hard because in my opinion, it was more important to comprehend which direction we must work in to be able find the best set-up. In any case I’m confident that tomorrow will go better and I’m sure that I’ll improve on my result while looking to obtain a good race pace”. Leandro Mercado : “This circuit is totally new for me. We worked a lot on the bike’s setting and during afternoon practice the bike improved a lot compared with this morning’s run. I’m still getting to know the track but this afternoon we finally understood what we have to change in the bike’s set up. I’m satisfied with today’s position but tomorrow I’ll try to improve my performance and my lap time to reach a good starting position on the grid”. Bryan Staring : “Today I enjoyed myself on this fast and technical circuit. We worked very well during both free practice and qualifying and improved the bike, but I need to find a better feeling with the bike and I’m suffering because of some chattering on the front wheel. I need more grip on the front and tomorrow we’ll work hard to solve this problem.
