TIE, Noyes/Abraham/Baldolini, 9 More, from a press release issued by JiR: Netherlands GP, race: a hard battle, but both riders in the points A hard weekend in Assen for Team JiR, but it did see both riders Simone Corsi and Mattia Pasini manage to get into the points. They both gained some positions at the green light and after some good passes they were in the pack following the top ten riders. In such a competitive category as Moto2 it’s not always easy to gain positions and they both swopped positions with their rivals many times, with Corsi ending up 12th and Pasini in 14th as they crossed the line. So it was World Championship points for both and in only seven days it will be time for Barcelona. The team’s mood is still the same, conscious of the potential, they now look forward to Catalunya, which technically is similar to Mugello, where Corsi gained a good podium. It was a very good performance for the winner Andrea Iannone today, who won by more than four seconds from second-place Toni Elias. The podium was completed by Swiss rider Thomas Luthi. More, from a press release issued by Tech 3: Top ten for Yuki Takahashi in Dutch TT Tech 3 Racing rider Yuki Takahashi rode a determined race in hot conditions at the legendary Assen circuit in Holland this afternoon to claim his third top ten Moto2 finish in 2010. Involved in a thrilling scrap with Karel Abraham and Mike di Meglio, the Japanese rider climbed into ninth shortly after the halfway stage as an entertaining mid-pack dice unfolded in front of 97,146 sun-drenched fans. Despite his best efforts, Takahashi was unable to sustain his strong challenge against Abraham and di Meglio and his attention quickly turned to defending his top ten against a hard charging Scott Redding in the closing stages. Takahashi showed all of his battling qualities to keep the British rider at bay by over 0.5s and his result moved him closer to the top ten in the overall standings after six races of the 2010 season. Raffaele de Rosa experienced a challenging 24-lap race as he fought a fruitless battle to try and score his first points in the new Moto2 class. The Italian rider tried his best to overcome front and rear grip issues and eventually finished in 27th position. The Tech 3 Racing Team now moves back to Spain for the Catalunya round of the 2010 Moto2 world championship on July 4. Yuki Takahashi 10th 27-points “It was a decent result but I have to say I’m a little disappointed because I thought I could fight for the top five after the warm-up. It was a good fight and I was close to some of the fast guys in this class, but I’d like to be further up than tenth. It was a good result after the disappointment of Silverstone and we’ve got some confidence back which is really important. We made some good changes to the bike and I was able to lap a little bit faster in the race than I did in qualifying and I think we’ll continue with this direction for Catalunya next week. I was quite fast at Catalunya in the winter time so it will be interesting to check if the new set-up works for us at that track because I’m confident of a good result.” Raffaele de Rosa 27th 0-points “I expected a better race after an encouraging warm-up this morning when the bike felt quite good. But during the race I started to have a chatter issue with the front and I just couldn’t enter the corner like I wanted. I also had a lot of movement with the rear tyre under acceleration, so it made for another difficult and disappointing race. At the moment it is a quite difficult to find a good pace but I’ll be back next weekend trying as hard as always for the Tech 3 Racing Team in Barcelona.” Herve Poncharal Team Manager “Today was a much better performance from Yuki. He got a good start and was able to challenge for a top ten throughout. He was fighting in the group battling for seventh and he showed a lot of determination. We were not far behind Jules Cluzel and he won the last race at Silverstone, so it again shows how tough it is to score points in the Moto2 class. We are competitive and it looks like Yuki has some of his confidence back after Silverstone, so he should be happy with the way he rode today. It was a shame for Raffaele because he looked strong in warm-up but he was stuck in a group and he couldn’t make a break. We have scored some good points and now we look forward to Barcelona with a lot of motivation.” More, from a press release issued by Marc VDS Racing Team: REDDING ADDS TO POINTS HAUL AT ASSEN Scott Redding fought his way through the field from the fifth row of the grid, to take a respectable 11th place in today’s Moto2 race at the historic Circuit van Drenthe in Assen. Hector Faubel finished 25th in the race, ten places better than his qualifying position. Redding got a good start from 19th position on the grid, but got blocked in around the first three turns as the 40-rider Moto2 grid negotiated the Assen circuit for the first time. The 17-year-old Briton managed to fight his way through the group immediately in front of him and then continued to pick off his rivals throughout the 24-lap race, as he lapped within two-tenths of the riders battling for the podium. A concerted effort in the closing stages saw the Marc VDS rider pass Simone Corsi for 11th place, netting him five more championship points. After a difficult qualifying session that saw him complete only three fast laps, Faubel knew he was facing a tough task starting today’s race from 35th position on the grid. The 26-year-old Spanish rider struggled to get his Suter MMX to hold a line through the fast turns in the race, a problem that has dogged him all weekend. Despite the difficulties, Faubel managed to make up ten places to secure 25th place and only his second race finish of the season so far. Scott Redding #45: 11th “The start was as crazy as always and I got blocked in around the first part of the track. But then I managed to fight my way through the first group of riders ahead of me, found a good rhythm and set some pretty quick lap times. The lap times suffered a bit every time I came up behind someone, but once past I was able to drop the times once again. I felt good, the bike felt good and the lap times were similar to those Elias and Luthi were doing at the front of the race, but I was on a hiding to nothing with the grid position today. We need to take a long hard look at our qualifying performance, to ensure we start from further up the grid in future. Hector Faubel #55: 25th “This weekend started difficult and it just got worse as it went on. Qualifying yesterday was a nightmare; I only managed three laps after the bike stopped with a technical problem and then I crashed after the problem had been rectified. This put me almost at the back of the grid, so I know it was going to be tough today. We’ve had a problem with the bike all weekend, where it runs wide as soon as you open the gas, and it was the same in the race. I managed to make up ten places in the race, and I’m happy to get another finish under my belt, but I’m far from satisfied with the final result. Now I need to focus on my home race in Barcelona next weekend, where I just hope we don’t have the same problems with the bike.” Michael Bartholemy: Team Manager “Scott rode a good race today and his pace was very close to that of the group battling for the podium. The only reason he wasn’t up there battling with them was because he started so far down the grid. This is something we need to address, as it’s the only thing stopping Scott from scoring the results that, with his fourth place at Silverstone, he proved he is capable of. Hector has had a tough weekend here at Assen. I’m glad that he managed to finish the race today, as this will increase his confidence going into his home race at Barcelona, where I know he wants to put in a strong performance.” More, from a press release issued by Moriwaki: Dutch Grand Prix Moto2 class MORIWAKI MD600 race result ANOTHER PODIUM FHINISH FOR ELIAS AND LUTHI Since the introduction of Moto2, the class has shown competitive battles. TT Assen was no exception. 15 riders in a split of a second, it was already predicting another great race after the qualifying practice ended. 3 MD600 riders were in the top 15; Thomas Luthi was in 5th, followed by Toni Elias in 6th and Lukas Pesek in 11th. The mercury went up to 20C and the track temperature rose to 33C with a help of fine Dutch weather. The race started in the favored condition. Great start for MD600 riders, Elias, Luthi and Nieto went into turn 1 in 3rd, 4th and 5th. At lap2, Elias moved to the 2nd position and battled the position while leaving the 4th and the rest of riders behind. Later the race, Luthi gradually gaining his position and joined the 3rd-position battle. At last 5lap, Luthi marked 1’39″414 re-writing the record lap and getting a chance to take 3rd position. At the last 2laps, finally Tom Luthi became 3rd. Toni Elias was just in front of Luthi and he had the position since lap14. The 2 MD600 riders kept their positions all the way to the finish line, Elias 2nd and Luthi 3rd. Vladimir Ivanov was the only remaining one to complete the race, with 21st position. Fonsi Nieto, Lukas Pesek and Xavier Simon did not finish the race. Nieto retired at lap6. Pesek was out at 8laps to go, and Simon was the last one to crashed, just 1 lap short to complete the race. Toni Elias, 2nd: “It was a good through the week, stayed in top group all the time. I started the race good but the gap with Iannone was already growing when I was battling to get 2nd position and I could not reach him. The second in podium was good for the championship so I’m very happy with the result. I would like to win again at next round.” Thomas Luthi, 3rd: “The start of the race was not easy. I had a good start but could not switch into the gear and lost the connection a little bit because of that. Then Iannon e was already building up a gap behind him. At the end I was able to fight for the podium, but the second place was impossible to reach. I am very happy with my third place though.” Now, MORIWAKI is back on the top of Constructor Championship. Toni Elias kept his championship lead and Thomas Luthi is now just 2 points behind the runner up. Official race report will be issued later. Iannone grabbed the lead a third of the way into the opening lap then extended his lead to 9.0s by lap 17 of the 24-lap race. He eventually crossed the finish line with a winning margin of 4.4s on the M210 and is now up to fourth place in the World Championship, just 33 points behind leader Toni Elias runner-up at Assen today. “The win today feels better than my win in Mugello,” said Iannone who, as he did in Mugello, started the race today from pole position. He added: “It was a tough race, I had to keep pushing hard to keep the lead. I have to thank the mechanics and Luca Boscoscuro. Now we must keep focussed and do the same job next week at the Catalunya round.” Czech Republic rider Karel Abraham enjoyed a career-best finish of ninth place after being locked in a battle for seventh on his Cardion AB Motoracing Team FTR M210. Abraham’s seven points for ninth moved him up six places in the Championship table to 22nd. Iannone’s FIMMCO Speed Up team-mate Gabor Talmacsi bounced back from a heavy fall in qualifying on Friday to take his fifth points-scoring finish from six rounds with 13th place. Talmacsi sits joint ninth in the World Championship with luckless Aeroport de Castello-Ajo Team rider Alex Debon who was unable to start after a qualifying crash on Friday. FTR’s Steve Bones commented: “Andrea was sensational today, as he was in Mugello. All three of our machines that started finished in the points and Karel Abraham’s performance in only his fourth race on the machine was superb and he was the fastest rider through the speed trap at 163mph so we’re leaving Holland and heading to Spain with plenty of optimism.” More, from a press release issued by Blusens STX: YONNY HERNÁNDEZ GOES BACK TO POINTS ZONE IN THE GRAND PRIX OF HOLLAND WHEN FINISHING 15TH. MASHEL AL NAIMI ENDS 31ST AFTER DOING A BEAUTIFUL RACE. TITO RABAT CRASHES AND MARK NO POINTS FOR THE FIRST TIME Assen, 26th June 2010. Yonny Hernández has battled toughly in the Moto2 race of the Grand Prix of Holland to get in the points again. The Colombian rider has started very nicely and soon he has become part of the group that was fighting for the points positions. He has shared the battle with Redding, Corsi and Talmacsi in a first period, and with Bradl, Baldolini and Corti later on. He has struggled to get the 15th position with these last two riders during the last lap. He has finally overpass them in the last chicane, scoring one more point that puts him 20th in the general standing with a total of 11 points. His team mate Mashel Al Naimi has had a successful comeback after a month off, since he has done a good race and has finished the race, just like he wanted. The Qatari rider has finished 31st, after a race against Olivé, who he has left behind at the end. Tito Rabat was doing a great race in 125cc, situated in the sixth position, when the bike has shake and he has crashed. The rider of Blusens-STX kept the eighth position after the start and went to the tenth place before the first lap, but after this he has done a magnificent act, battling against Cortese, Webb and Krummenacher. He was really fast and became sixth, but in the fifth lap he has crashed, saying good-bye to the points for the first time this season. Despite of that, Tito has not changed positions in the World Championship standing: he is still fifth with 50 points. 68 YONNY HERNÁNDEZ (15º. 40′.34,407 +34.024): “We matched our expectations of scoring some points and I am satisfied. Also, today we made the setting of the bike better during the warm up and I felt a lot more comfortable on it, I could be faster and do my fastest lap of the weekend. The circuit has been difficult for me, but I have improved the feeling in the race. I have battled roughly against Bradl in the last laps, but I have done a little mistake at the end and Baldolini and Corti have gotten to us. In the last lap I have done my very best to defend the 15th position, even though Corti has hit me in the last chicane. This point we have added is very important for us. The next event is in Montmeló, at the team’s home, so I hope I will make a better result there.” 95 MASHEL AL NAIMI (31º. 41′.41,418 +1’41.035): “I am happy because the weekend has been tough, but at the end we have done a good race and we have matched our objectives. I wanted to feel like a rider again and be able to finish the race. Moreover, I have not felt pain or anything else in the arms, so I am much more relaxed now for the next events. My rhythm today has been good and the battle with Olivé has been beautiful. In general, my feeling is very positive, so now I am going to focus in the Grand Prix of Catalunya next weekend. I will get there with a different mentality than I got to Assen and with the hope of doing even better.” 12 TITO RABAT (Crash): “I am happy because I started well and I was very fast, but I am also disappointed because of the crash. I could have been with Smith and make a better result. Maybe be in the top five again. It has been such a shame, because I felt really comfortable in that group, battling for the fifth position, but in the T3 I gave too much gas and the bike has shake very aggressively and made me fall down. I have not lost any place in the championship standing, but the races are meant to let you find your limits and it is too soon now to think about the general rank. We can think about it after the summer. The next event is in Montmeló, which is the team’s and my home, so we are going to give a 100% to try to make the best out of it.”
