TIE, Harms/Salom, 42 points 6. Foret, 36 points 7. Lowes, 27 points 8. TIE, Roccoli/Marino, 26 points 10. Ellison, 19 points More, from a press release issued by Yamaha ParkinGO Team: A really good day for Yamaha ParkinGO Team. Chaz Davies and Luca Scassa went through the chequered flag in first and second position, confirming the strength of the team. The bristish and Italian rider are leading the championship with an advantage of 10 points from Broc Parkes, that today finished 4th on the race. The Team of Giuliano Rovelli has dominated the weekend: at the green light Davies after a great start has escape from the group, meanwhile Scassa has been able to go from sixth position to second trying to follow his teammate. The Italian rider was able to reduce the advantage to two seconds of Davies during the race escaping from Foret, but thanks to a regular pace, Chaz managed to keep him under control. The Yamaha ParkinGO Team gets again the same result of Donington and wins its fourth victory of the season. Chaz Davies – Yamaha YZF R6 #7 – “I feel very good, for the first time I am in the top of the world championship classification. I managed to put a gap from the beginning of the race. I have pushed very hard during the 16 laps and once I knew I had a good enough advantage I tried to slow down a bit and don’t do any mistakes. I am very happy to get another victory and I would like to thank all my team for the excellent work done during the weekend.” Luca Scassa – Yamaha YZF R6 #9 – “I am very happy to have finished the race in the podium in front of my fans. They did deserve this trophy after three days supporting me at the track. I have tried very hard to reach Chaz and battle with him the victory but to do it was a high risk after all. I decided then to stay in second and share the lead of the championship with my teammate who I want to congratulate for the fantastic race.” Giuliano Rovelli – team owner – “I have no more words to say what a good job the team did. I wanted to have a good result here at home but they have given me as well the two top steps of the podium. We have now a month off and I am very sure that everybody will work very hard to keep on the top for the championship title. We have to be able to keep the concentration.” More, from a press release issued by Ten Kate Honda: Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Fabien Foret finished third in today’s fourth round World Supersport championship race held at Monza in Italy, the race being won by British rider Chaz Davies, as Foret’s team-mate, Florian Marino took seventh place. Starting from the front row of the grid for the 16-lap race around the 5.777km historic Monza circuit, Foret was forced wide at the first corner and lost touch with the leading group. However, the French rider battled past his team-mate among others to secure third before enduring a relatively lonely race to the flag. Marino had the better of the early laps but became embroiled in a four-way dice for fourth place and ended up losing time to his rivals through handling issues, rather than the outright speed demanded by Monza. The World Supersport championship now takes a month off before re-grouping with the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team in Italy once more, at Misano, on 1 0-12 June. Fabien Foret 3rd I really lost everything in the first chicane where Tamburini went a bit mad. I got pushed off the track a little bit and that was it. I could see Chaz (Davies) was already far away and by the time I passed Broc (Parkes) and Florian (Marino) and the other guys it was just to late. I tried to push to catch Scassa but it was pretty difficult on my own without the slipstream. I wanted to be safe at the end and score 16 points because I feel I’ve already used my joker this season by not scoring in the first two races. I can’t afford to make any mistakes now and, even though I felt that second was probably my position today, I had to decide whether to risk pushing that bit harder or taking the points that I had. Florian Marino 7th I am really disappointed because I would have preferred to fight with Parkes to the end of the race. The top three guys looked pretty fast but it’s frustrating because, compared to yesterday’s qualifying and the warm-up this morning, the feeling was not so good today. In the race I had some problems to go fast I could not get the rhythm I wanted and did not feel like I could push the tyre. I had to fight the bike to turn and nearly high-sided two or three times at the beginning. In the final three laps I was exhausted. Sure, I took some points but it was still disappointing so we’ll look at the data and I look forward to doing better at Misano. Ronald ten Kate team manager It’s good to see Fabien back on the podium again so soon after his second place at Assen. Unfortunately the start of his race was messed up a bit, otherwise he might have been even higher, but he rode very well on his own and did the best he could without any slipstreaming advantage. Florian is a little disappointed and didn’t have such a good feeling with the bike as he had yesterday and during warm-up. We’ll look to find out what the problem was, but he has ridden another good race and continues to impress in his debut World Supersport season. More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Parkes Well In Championship Contention After Gritty Monza Performance WSS, Monza, Italy, 8 May 2011 A sometimes challenging weekend for Broc Parkes and David Salom culminated in Broc securing fourth and David going eighth in the 16-lap race after showing true grit from first to last. Under brilliant sunshine Parkes made a good start and was looking capable of staying with the group immediately behind runaway early leader and eventual race victor Chaz Davies but Broc ended up in a battle for fourth at the end. He used all his experience to control that fight in the final sector of the race and got a good points haul as a reward. Broc is third in the rankings, on 60 points compared to the joint leaders Davies and Luca Scassa on 70, and Parkes is still well in contention after four rounds. David Salom could not call on his very best race spec engine at Monza and therefore his eighth place was a fantastic performance from both rider and team. He also won the fight for supremacy in his own group of riders and the Spanish rider is now fifth, on the same 52 points as officially fourth ranked Robbin Harms. A strong performance from battling Italian rider Massimo Roccoli (Lorenzini by Leoni Kawasaki) saw him take ninth place and now eighth place in the championship overall. His team-mate Vittorio Iannuzzo was involved in a collision late in the race and could not finish. The next round for the Supersport class will be at Misano, on June 12, as the WSS competitors will not take part in the Miller Motorsports Park WSBK event on May 31st. Broc Parkes: “I was pretty happy because I got away good from the line. I was a little bit concerned about my pace after morning warm-up. It is so important to have a good top speed here but also pace in other areas. Two guys came past me and then I ended went fourth. I could see that this probably going to be my battle so I tried to stay there. Every time I tried to break the guys behind they could slipstream me so I sat on the back until I felt I could go and then I tried in the last three or four laps and I broke them to get fourth place. I think that was the best I could do today in the circumstances.” David Salom: “It was a difficult race and a difficult weekend for me. I had some issues with engines in practice and I was not sure how it would go in the race. The engine we had to use was not our fastest one and at this fast track, at Monza, I think eighth position is good in these circumstances. The guys in the team worked really hard to get us to this result so thanks to them. I was in a group fighting and I was able to made sure I finished at the head of my group. We have more races in the championship and it is a long season so now we can look to the next race in Misano.” More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: PARKALGAR HONDA’S Sam Lowes rode through the pain barrier with a broken collarbone to secure an impressive fifth place at the fourth round of the World Supersport Championship at Monza in Italy. Miguel Praia crashed out mid-race while ninth and looking comfortable for one of his best results in the class. He has broken a bone in his shoulder but is expected to be fit for the next round of the World Supersport Championship at Misano in Italy on 12th of June. Sam: “That was a hard race in the heat and with my injured shoulder. I really wanted to finish the race and rode safely within myself – I am ok with fifth given my condition. My Parkalgar Honda was great and I am really looking forward to getting back to full fitness and challenging for the win at Misano next month.” Miguel: “I was fighting for eighth place when I went into a corner too fast and ran wide and off the track. I am disappointed to have missed this opportunity to score good points and what I think may have been a good finish inside the top 10. The good news is my Parkalgar Honda is a very quick bike and I will do all I can to be fit for the next round and I am sure we can get a good result there.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “That was a heroic ride for Sam given he broke his collarbone just three weeks ago and did not take any pain killers this weekend. A fully fit Sam Lowes would have been challenging for the race win I am sure and we look forward to having him back to 100 per cent at the next round. “Miguel was competitive inside the top 10 and enjoying his best race of the year when he made a mistake and crashed out. He is showing ability and pace and we will build on that at the next round and the results will come for him soon.” More, from a press release issued by Bogdanka PTR Honda: BOGDANKA PTR Honda’s James Ellison was on course for another solid top eight result in the World Supersport Championship when he was forced off track by a race incident just in front of him and remounted to finish at Monza in 17th position. His Bogdanka PTR Honda teammate, Pawel Szkopek, had to retire from the race with clutch problems while Superstock 1000 rider Marcin Walkowiak shared the same luck after running off track due to brake issues. James Ellison: “My bike started cutting out at full throttle so I turned all the electronics off but then the rear would lock up on the brakes as it had no electronic aid. I tried pressing all the switches on the dash to see if I could fix it but it was still there the whole race. Then at the end of the race to lose a good finish through no fault of my own is less than ideal.” PaweÅ‚ Szkopek: “I’m disappointed because I was confident I would’ve finished in a point scoring position today but right from the start things weren’t going our way. I struggled from the start and then the clutch gave up and I had to retire. We’ll regroup now and come back fighting at Misano in the next round.” Marcin Walkowiak: “I felt good ahead of the race and made a great start, passing five riders or so early on. Unfortunately, I had a brake problem which forced me to run off the track on only the second lap. My motocross experience helped me to stay upright but I had to come back to the pits. We’re a bit unlucky so far but I hope luck will be at our side at the next round.” Simon Buckmaster: “James showed more of his potential this weekend and even with a technical issue he was on for a solid seventh or eighth, so we are looking forward to the next round with him. “Pawel has worked hard this weekend and did deserve more. He is doing a good job and we will do all we can to make sure he can compete as high up as possible at Misano.”
