PASCARELLA AND NASH DOMINATE FONTANA FOR LTD RACING
Fontana, CA (March 28, 2010) Joey Pascarella once again dominated the field in the AMA Pro SuperSport race at Fontana, California’s Auto Club Speedway on Sunday, and teammate Huntley Nash earned second place for his best ever SuperSport finish with a stirring ride.
Pascarella, winner of three races in a row, got a great start and stretched his lead on the first lap and was never challenged. The race was red-flagged and declared official after 13 laps, with Pascarella holding a lead at 6.329 seconds. Joey currently leads AMA West SuperSport points, with 126 points compared to three riders tied at 46.
“I was happy with the one win at Daytona but three is a good streak,” said the Vacaville, California resident. “Hopefully we can go to Road Atlanta and keep it going. That would be nice. I’m not thinking about points right now. That’s the real goal – to win a championship — but you can’t really look at it too closely. What you have to do is go out each week and try to win and we’ve been able to do that so far. We’ve been working on our end-of-race strategy but we really didn’t need it this weekend. I didn’t feel as comfortable as I did earlier in the morning warm-up. I made some mistakes out there in the race but I was able to keep a good lead and win it. Thanks to everyone.”
Huntley Nash improved on Saturday’s third place with a second in today’s race. Nash, in his first weekend racing at Auto Club Speedway, again battled with local track expert Scott Gilbert and avenged Saturday’s result with some brilliant on-track moves. Nash answered each time Gilbert passed, making some controlled-but-aggressive slides to retake second place from his new rival.
“Like I said yesterday, I didn’t have any laps at this track and to get out there and finish behind two very good riders in the first race, that was a good lesson for me,” said Nash. “I learned where to push more and then the team did a great job of improving the bike, so that made the difference today. I felt like I rode a lot better on Sunday and I was definitely a lot more relaxed. We made changes to the rider position on the bike and it worked out for the best. To get two podiums and to improve our times throughout was our goal and we made it.”
“Joey got maximum points both races in his championship and it was a very smart move to bring Huntley out to this West Coast round and to get him some more experience at a different track,” said LTD Racing’s Gary Medley. “Joey’s ability and way of training are very impressive. I think he’s one to reckon with and the lap times he’s turning are comparable to some of the guys in the Daytona SportBike class. Huntley took a big step this weekend. He had two good battles in the races and didn’t give up. His lap times were faster at the end of the race than they were at the beginning. The mechanics worked hard and worked together and did a great job, too.”
