The start of the second day of the Dunlop/AMA Pro Racing tire test at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) is being delayed due to moisture on the track. Rain washed out the first day of the test on Monday, and mist kept the track damp Tuesday morning, causing the delay. The mist stopped shortly after 9:00 a.m. local time, and then DIS’s two jet-powered dryers set out to dry off the track. AMA Pro Racing Race Director David McGrath told participants at Tuesday’s rider’s meeting that once an inspection by AMA Pro officials and top riders determines that the track is dry enough for activity the day will start with Superbikes taking to the 2.9-mile “short course.” The Superbikes will be followed by a combined session for Daytona SportBikes and SuperSport riders on the 3.5-mile infield road course, and then Vance & Hines XR1200 competitors will have their own session on the long track. Once started, the day will run without a lunch break. Update: AMA Pro Racing officials just informed teams to be ready to start the first session, Superbike, at 12:15 p.m. local time.
