CT RACING’s Riders Anthony and McCullough Take Home Wins From WSMC and AFM CT RACINGPirelli tires has another great weekend winning at both WSMC and AFM. In cold weather and pouring rain, David Anthony took the number one spot in WSMC’s feature race the Toyota Unlimited Formula 1 race, winning by over 20 seconds and also taking the win in Open Superbike at Willow Springs International Raceway. CT RACING sponsored rider Greg McCullough also earned a win this weekend in the 600 Superbike class and took 2nd in 750 Superbike in cold wet conditions at round one of AFM at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. David Anthony ran Pirelli’s rain tire on his Suzuki GSXR 1000, and despite the adverse weather conditions, put up another fantastic performance in both Open Superbike and Formula 1. Anthony had this to say, ” The rain tires from Pirelli had excellent grip even with the amount of water there was on the track. The Formula 1 race was not just a battle of riders, but a battle against the elements too. I was pleased with how well the tires did. Open Superbike was another race where I just needed to be more on my mental game to combat how cold it was. I just put my head down and rode. The track time to stay ready for Infineon is very important, and I’m looking forward to May. Thanks to my team, ADR Fly racing, CT Racing/Pirelli tires, Race Tech, and my crew for all the help this weekend.” Greg McCullough ran the Pirelli 120/180 DOT Diablo Supercorsa race tires on his Yamaha R6 in cold, wet and windy conditions on Saturday, winning the 600 Superbike race, following it up with a 2nd place finish in 750 Superbike. McCullough said “The 600 race was exciting since my rear tire warmer malfunctioned and I had to go out on a completely cold rear tire for the warmup lap! Even in the cold and wet conditions, the Pirelli SC1 came up to temp in a hurry, and I was able to move up from 8th to 2nd by the 2nd lap. I had a great battle with Lenny Hale at the front, pushing each other deep on the brakes into turn 1 a few times.” McCullough also had this to say about the 750 race, “The Pirellis had almost no wear, so I ran the same set of tires in the second race, and they worked great. I’d like to thank Chris and Corey at CTRacing for their help this weekend. I’d also like to thank Z2 Trackdays, Leo Vince, Factory Bodyworks, CRG, Yamalube, Motion Pro, Roseville Cycle Center, Suomy, Helimot, RaceImage Graphics, Tech Spec and Sidi.” Corey Neuer of CT Racing/Pirelli had this to say, “I would like to congratulate Greg on what I think is his first win in that class. He rode super strong and I was very impressed. I am also very happy with David Anthony giving us the F1 win at Willow Springs! I can’t thank him enough. Willow Springs is a different animal and it very hard to just show up contend with the locals, David isn’t a regular there but he is quickly getting a grip on the place. We threw him on old pair of rains and he went out and dominated!” Anthony’s and McCullough’s next race will be at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA, April 16-17, 2011, for the AFM’s round two event. The 1st race of the 2011 Pan Delta Racing Festival is at the 18-20/3/2011 weekend. But the Early Spring weather before the weekend was predicted with rain so everyone was a bit weary with the weather over the weekend’s race. The Super Bike race in all the Pan Delta Racing Festival has always been the most watched racing event over every weekend and the SBK races has been gaining strength from race to race since the level has moved up significantly with more and more Pro riders coming into the races so the competition in 2011 will be extremely fierce. Kawasaki BG Canadian Rider Dan Kruger has been improving tremendously over the winter training and testing and has continued with BG-Kawasaki team for 2011, Dan did his best lap of 1.39 in Feb, 2011 putting him among the top 6 Pro Greater China riders. In 2011, Hong Kong’s most known Pro rider Cheung Wai On also join BG-Kawasaki team giving the team a local favorites Pro rider. It is a shame that another new to BG Spanish rider Alan has a home country Spanish SBK Championship race over the same weekend, so we can’t see what he can do with his 1st race at the Zhuhai Circuit. On the Fri/Sat Qualifying, Dan did great with a 2nd place Qualifying, but coming to the Sat afternoon 1st race, the track was wet from the rain in the morning, and everyone has to change to rain tyre and out to the wet and very slippery track. Dan has a good start and was immediately 3rd into the 1st corner, but overlooking the slippery track and new rain tyres and trying hard to catch up to the front 2 riders, Dan push a bit too hard at the 4th corner and crashed hard onto the run off area, although the bike was not seriously damaged but after Dan tried to lift the bike and found that he himself has injured his hand so he has to call it the day and retired from the race. The treacherous Track condition also claimed a few more victims, most of the fast pro riders also suffered from crashes on the wet track and the Pole runner R1 suffered a bike failure and have to retired within a lap from winning the race. With most of the Fast Pros gone, BG’s Spaniard rider Ramon captured the 3rd place in the podium riding a calculated safe race. BG-Kawasaki’s Cheung Wai On on the ZX6R did a courageous race dicing with the other 600 riders and finally come home in 2nd place at the Class II 600cc class. Upon taking Dan to the hospital, it is diagnosed that Dan has a fractured pinky finger, badly banged hand that is getting swollen with pain, so after taking the medications, Dan has to retired to his hotel and ice packed his hand hopefully he can do the race on Sunday. Sunday : The sun has finally come out on Sunday morning, so under this great weather the 2nd race of the SBK Championship was started. As a miracle, Dan bandaged his injured hand and taped his pinky finger together with his other fingers for support and started the race at the end of the line up due to his unfinished yesterday’s race. After a discussion with BG boss Steven over the starting strategy, Dan out it into perfect use over the starting lights gone off. Dan shoot right up to the Front runner coming up to the 1st corner as what were discussed with Steven that Dan should take the inside line while everyone else was shooting for the outside line trying to line up for the 1st corner, Dan was in 5th place coming out of corner 1 and by Lap 2, Dan was already in 2nd place despite the fact that he has to endure the pain from his injured hand. Dan did a perfect race by slowly and surely pulling a bigger gap between him and the 3rd place rider. But mishaps again happened coming up to Lap 7, Due to Dan’s yesterday crash damaged his gear side footrest Kit, he’d borrowed a set of not so good quality footrest kit from another bike and the shift knob broke off in the heat of the race, so permanently stuck in 4th gear, Dan has to finish the last of the 3 laps on 4th gear while over revving at all the straight but carry too much speed into all the corners. Despite the lack of gears, Dan did all the remaining 3 laps doing a amazing average 1.43/lap putting most of the other riders envy with green ! At the checkered flag, Dan just made the last place in the Class 1/1000cc Podium giving him a high note over a bad start of a weekend. Cheung Wai On meanwhile was a lot more comfortable on dry ground and a better set up bike, he shake off all the pursuits early in the race and coming home winning the Class II/600cc with a big margin from his next challenger. It was a eventful but good weekend for BG and our sponsors, We’d like to thank our sponsors and partners for their support over the weekend and we’re looking for much better result in our 2011 Race season.
