Lucky Sevens for Jordan Szoke Cashes into a Perfect Season Jordan Szoke wrote history this weekend at the 11 turn 1.6 mile Atlantic Motorsport Park course in Shubenacadie NS on his Honda CBR1000RR and CBR600RR. Szoke took home his seventh title with a perfect season in the Canadian National Superbike Championship. Szoke earned all seven pole positions and all seven victories making him the only Superbike racer to have done so in history. Jordan also closes off the season with the most National Superbike championships ever won by a Canadian Roadracer, ironically, seven. “This is a dream come true,” says Szoke “there has never been a perfect season in motorcycling other than Ricky Carmichael, so to share that statistic with someone like him is pretty special.” Szoke wrapped up his Superbike championship on Saturday with another victory leading from start to finish. An unfortunate red flag involving two competitors called the race early on lap 20 of 22. Sunday’s race went from flag to flag with Jordan again leading every lap finishing 2.817 seconds over his next competitor and earning him his last Canadian National checkered flag of his perfect 376 point season. Not only did Szoke dominate the Superbike Championship but he also wrapped up his fifth consecutive Pro Sportbike title on Saturday. This ties him with the legendary Don Munroe for Sportbike championships. “I am always trying to stand alone in the record books,” smiles Szoke “but to share a statistic with someone like Don Munroe is cool with me.” Szoke finished fourth on Saturdays race after finding an air fence two corners from the finish while attempting a pass for the lead. Szoke was determined to put on a show for the legendary Shubie fans on Sunday. He executed a perfect pass to get out front and stretched a 4.396 second lead before claiming yet another checkered flag in Pro Sportbike. Szoke finishes his Sportbike season with 352 points. “I never really thought of myself as a 600 rider, but the past 5 years has brought me allot of success.” says Jordan. The Waznie Racing Ciclo Werks BMC DeWildt Honda team worked extremely hard all season, alongside the crew from Fast Company, and were also awarded the prestigious Inside Motorcycles Team of The Year award. John Hopkins, of Inside Motorcycles, presented the award to Jordan and his entire crew stating “It is pretty hard to argue with perfection.” This is the first season that Szoke has taken on a managerial role of his own team. “Working with Scott Miller from Fast Company has really leapfrogged our learning curve this season.” says Jordan. “Scott’s experience and expertise was an important part of our team, without the crew’s hard work and dedication we wouldn’t be where we are today.” Jordan’s wife Amy Szoke also competed in the National Amateur Sportbike championship and supporting Atlantic Roadracing League Amateur Superbike feature class on her Honda CBR600RR. Amy finished 12th and 14th in the Amateur National Class, completing her first National Season in 9th place. Amy also finishes 7th and 10th in the supporting Amateur Superbike class. “All season I was looking to be faster than last year.” says Amy. “We managed to drop time at each and every track this season which makes me pretty happy.” Amy was an addition to the Waznie Racing Ciclo Werks BMC DeWildt Honda team for the 2010 season. “I loved working alongside my husband Jordan all year, it was pretty awesome to watch what the professionals do. That alone has helped me immensely.” grins Szoke “My crew chief Jim-Jim worked his butt off all year, and Jordan really dedicated his time and effort to coach me, I had so (so) much fun.” When asked about the future holds for Jordan Szoke he replies “I still want to ride, I am young and healthy enough to have many years left at this level. I believe that with my experience and results I would be a good asset to any team weather it is in the US, overseas or here in Canada.” “We would like to send our special thanks to the sponsors listed below.” says the Szoke’s of Waznie Racing. “We came to you all late in the game asking for help and you all came through. Thank you for making our 2010 season possible, and here’s too many more seasons to come.” Waznie Racing would like to thank: Waznie Racing Inc, Ciclo Werks , BMC Swiss Cycling Technology , Dewildt Honda, Fast Company, Joe Rocket, Monster Energy, Shoei, Pirelli, Akrapovic, Honda Pro Oils, Hot Bodies, Motovan, eatsleepride.com, TCX Boots, EBC Brakes, LighTech, Sunstar, DID, Oakley, Ogio, BK Designs, PUG, VP Fuels, Samco, Hinson, Stomp Grip, oppracing.com, Chickenhawk, Just Transmissions , Strodes, Bodyline Fitness, Robot Pirate Ninja Productions, u-vu.ca Watch for Jordan Szoke competing in the American Superbike Championship in Virginia International Raceway this weekend Aug – to – on SPEED TV. Jordan Szoke – Canadian National Superbike & Pro Sportbike Champion More, from a press release issued by Team 84 Racing: Progress continues for Acree at VIR Lee Acree posted solid results this weekend at the WERA Cycle Jam run at Virginia International Raceway. The busy 4-day event included WERA Sportsman races as well as Round 6 of the WERA National Endurance and National Challenge Series. Building on a successful trip to Summit Point a week earlier, Acree continued to make advances with the setup of his CBR1000RR. He scored a little extra track time by riding for 2 teams in Friday’s endurance race, helping one of these teams reach the rostrum in 2nd overall. Acree then captured a pair of 3rd place sprint results, the first coming in the Formula 1 Sportsman race on Saturday followed by another podium in WERA Superbike Sunday afternoon. Lee Acree-3rd Place Formula 1, 3rd Place WERA Superbike “I was really excited to go straight back to the track after a strong event at Summit. I tried to pick up right where I left off when I rolled out for practice at VIR. I made consistent progress with the bike all the way through the event. The only setback was a broken shifter Saturday morning. I wasn’t able to find a replacement so I had to go old school without the electronic aid. I was able to ride around that well enough finishing 3rd in Formula 1. The big breakthrough came Sunday morning with the help of Mike Fitzgerald at Ohlins. We went in a different direction with the fork spring rates and preload and suddenly the front of the bike felt great. For WERA Superbike I got a great start and got to turn 1 in 2nd from 5th on the grid. As the race heated up I started to have some problems getting some of my downshifts. I ended up having to carry 3rd gear instead of 2nd over the top of turn 7 several times and just couldn’t get the drive off the corner I needed. I lost ground to the leaders and ended up spending a large part of the race running alone. All in all I was very happy bring the Team 84 Racing CBR home in 3rd to finish out the weekend. With the new confidence I have in the front of my Honda I can’t wait to get to the next WERA National at Barber! ” Round 7 of the WERA National Challenge Series is scheduled for September 10-12 at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama. The sponsors that make this program possible: Arai, Carbone Lorraine, Dunlop, Held, Hotbodies Racing, The Kevin Schwantz School, KWS Motorsports, LeoVince, Millennium Technologies, Ohlins, Pit Bull, Sidi, Spiegler, Woodcraft, Steve Kirkbaumer, Dr. Michael Moore, and Rocky Stargel. More, from a press release issued by Acceleration Racing: Matechuk Takes Pro Rookie of the Year Title The Acceleration | Suzuki | Motovan Race Team travelled East to Nova Scotia for the final two rounds of the Parts Canada Superbike Series this past weekend. Often regarded as the most technical track in Canadian road racing, the twisty elevated roadway of Shubenacadie provided locals with some of the most spirited racing of the season. Matechuk looked to secure his lead in the Pro Rookie of the Year standings as well as lock a top 3 ranking in the Pro 600 class, a first by any Rookie Pro in the Canadian National circuit. Thursday & Friday provided little opportunity for teams to negotiate power and handling set up as rain crashed the paddocks throughout the early hours Friday. By lunch however, the sun had track conditions back to dry and qualifying ran as scheduled. Using every minute from the Qualifiers, the Acceleration crew consistently whittled away at the lap times. Although coming short of Matechuk’s personal goal of low 109’s. The hard work did put the red and black GSX-R on the inside of the second row for the start of the Pro 600 race and inside on the third row for the Superbike Feature. The Pro 600 race was first up both days. Saturday’s action saw some steady, level-headed racing result in the 16 year olds 4th visit to the Pro podium this year. Matechuk challenged Veteran racer Cyr for most of the 18 lap race, in what looked to be the final podium position. Just four corners from the finish, a crash by current points leader Szoke graduated both warriors to the podium. Sunday’s re-match saw a less dramatic conclusion, as carnage seemed minimal and riders settled down to make race distance. Matechuk pushed hard throughout the event running his fastest time of the weekend to overcome Cyr mid way through the race. The combined points accumulation not only locked up the Pro Rookie of the Year title, it left the young Cochrane teen with a top 3 finish overall in the 2010 Pro 600 standings. “It’s been an amazing year”, shared team owner, Clint McBain. “We didn’t expect any podiums, but the kid took 4. We hoped for a top 5 finish, he ends up third and he’s the top Pro Rookie, that’s quite the first year”. Matechuk later added, “I think it was an awesome season and as a small team we did so well! I can’t believe how much I learned this season; how different it is at this level. We were so fortunate to have the Sponsors we did and I can’t thank them enough for believing in us.” For the 22-lap featured Superbike race, the Acceleration team was looking for a strong showing inside the top ten even with the lower HP of the smaller GSXR600. Saturday’s penultimate round challenged Matechuk to better his 11th place grid position against the larger horsepower of his opponents. A phenomenal launch and scrappy racing effort moved the young rookie’s GSX-R into 8th position before a few anxious mistakes from those around him started to thin the field. Two more racers crashing out promoted Matechuk to an impressive 6th place finish. The follow-up event on Sunday played out similarly with the exception of fewer crashes. Winding through the field, Matechuk again, rode his fastest pace of the weekend to claim a 7th place finish in the final Superbike round adding valuable overall points. Getting slightly edged out by Factory BMW racer Ferreria, Matechuk ended up 6th overall in the Superbike standings. “It was the fastest we ran all weekend”, smiled a content Matechuk. “You know it’s a great weekend when you finish that way. Our Race Tech set up just got better every day as Clint & I worked on lines and technique. He’s a great coach and I understand much better how fast and how good a racer he really is.” The stellar 2010 season performance earned the Pro Rookie of the Year Title, coupled with an unprecedented 4 podium visits from the teenage Rookie and a jaw dropping 3rd place finish in the Pro 600 class. Overwhelmed with the success and accomplishments this year McBain shared, “It’s phenomenal to see someone so young achieve so much in their Rookie year. Before McCormack it had been a long time since the series had produced any young promising talent. Now with Cody (Matechuk) progressing at this rate and more kids coming behind, it’s a very exciting time for racing in Canada.” The Acceleration Race Team would like to acknowledge the tremendous support of their Sponsors in 2010 who made this season possible. “Without your faith in us we would have never enjoyed such an incredible season.” Special mention goes to Suzuki Canada, Motovan and Race Tech, your ongoing support has been invaluable. To all our other Sponsors, congratulations and thank you once again for being part of Acceleration Racing. One team | One goal. More, from a press release issued by Warr’s Harley-Davidson: Pole and double victory for Warr’s Racing’s McWilliams at Brands The weekend couldn’t have been any better for Warr’s Racing at this weekend’s Brands Hatch round of the Henderson Harley-Davidson® XR1200® Trophy. Former MotoGP rider Jeremy McWilliams enjoyed a clean sweep with a pole position and two race wins in the double-header event to extend his championship advantage at the head of the standings table. Following his second consecutive race win of the weekend aboard the Warr’s XR1200, McWilliams said, “I was on the limit the entire race and out of the seat. Brands Hatch was a fast and intense test for my bike, but the bike stayed upright and the motor felt strong all weekend. The whole of the Warr family were here this weekend for their home races, so I wanted to do it for them and thank them for their support this year in the Henderson Harley-Davidson® XR1200® Trophy.” McWilliams team mate, Canadian Superbike rider Darren James, also had a successful weekend and managed to strengthen his position in the championship with strong 6th and 7th place race finishes, meaning he is now knocking on the door of a top three position in the overall points standings. Team owner John Warr said: “It really couldn’t get much better than that. The whole Warr’s Racing team have worked brilliantly this weekend and crew chief Martin Szlagowski has masterminded a very slick operation. Congratulations to all of them and especially Jeremy for his outstanding skill and determination to be number one on the podium.” Attention now shifts to the legendary LincolnshireCadwellPark circuit and the last three XR1200 races over the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend.
