WMRRA Rider Breaks Open Supersport Track Record The weather was awesome all week leading up to Saturday but at 5am Saturday morning and it was pouring rain! We arrive at track with the weatherman’s promise of party cloudy conditions, to the general buzz of race day prep. The weather later clearing up for the most part with the only rain of the weekend ended up being on the 600 Supersport. We were busy everyday at the track, which started on Thursday with the Sullivan School. Speaking of Mike Sullivan, a member of the EastsideMotoSports racing team, the Open Supersport class belonged to him breaking the track record aboard his Suzuki GSXR1000 with a time of 1:24.917! The veteran Sullivan won both the Open races over the weekend too. A big thanks to Dave Hodges for the GP Suspension 25mm cartridges and Penske shock; Mike Sullivan said the suspension felt awesome, nice work!! Also, Don Beck and Mike Castro, the GSXR is fast, good job on building an awesome bike. Honorable mention shout out to Eli Edwards as well, he set the fastest 600cc lap time 1:26.653 aboard his Yamaha R6 and the fastest 750cc lap time 1:26.332 aboard his Suzuki GSXR750!! Another new young racer also did quite well this weekend, EastsideMotoSports’ Mario Alvarez Jr! He won his first WMRRA 125GP race at the age of 11 years old!! More, from a press release issued by RMP Racing: SHUBENACADIE, N.S. – August 13, 2008 Hamilton’s Ross Millson returned to his birth-province of Nova Scotia to compete in the 5th and 6th rounds of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship held this past weekend at Atlantic Motorsport Park. Energized by the weekend’s festival like atmosphere, Millson earned himself a 9th place finish in Saturday’s feature and turned it up a notch to pull off 8th place finish on Sunday. Millson arrived earlier in the week to take-in some of the local attractions, flavours and hospitality Halifax and its surrounding communities are so well known for. After enjoying some well deserved leisure time, Millson was eager to get down to business and put in some practice laps around Atlantic Motorsport Park’s 2.56-KM circuit, one of Canada’s most challenging tracks. On Friday morning Millson was able to achieve a best lap time of 1:09.715. This lap time was ninth fastest, earning him a coveted spot in Friday afternoon’s Pirelli Superpole qualifying session, where the top ten riders are provided with a single fast lap to improve their placement on the grid. Unable to improve upon his qualifying time, during the Pirelli Superpole session, Millson was locked in to 10th on the grid for the start of each days feature race. On Saturday, inclement weather would keep all the teams guessing on what would be the optimum setup for the upcoming feature. The sun reappeared and quickly started to dry the track, however threatening clouds continued to lurk overhead. Starting from 10th on the grid Millson was hungry for good start. With that objective completed he kept his #39 Summit Gearworks sponsored Suzuki GSX-R1000 hot on the heals of the #14 bike of Maple Ridge, BC’s Steve Crevier. Millson also received pressure from two local aces, but was able to fend them off for the remaining laps. With a slight drizzle beginning to fall he crossed the finish line in 9th place. Racers and fans were treated to sunny skies for Sunday’s feature race. Millson shot off the line and held his 10th place starting position until a first corner bottleneck briefly forced him back to 11th. Patiently waiting for the right opportunity Millson worked his way back up to 10th place and set his sights on the #41 machine of local rider Bill Clark (Stillwater Lake, NS). Millson battled shoulder to shoulder with Clark in the corners and utilized the draft in an attempt to pass him on the straights. Millson was presented with a chance to get by the local ace and took it. Putting in consistent laps for the balance of the race Millson would eventually take the checkered flag in 8th place. With RMP Racing’s Millson’s 9th place finish on Saturday and his 8th on Sunday it positions him 6th overall in the Championship point standings and places him as the second highest ranked Superbike privateer in the Canada. “What a great weekend for the team …the fans here are the best!” exclaimed Millson. “The bike ran amazing and thanks to John Sharrard of Accelerated Technologies we were able to dial in the suspension throughout the weekend to get it where we needed it. We hope to adapt some of what we learned this past weekend to the final round in Shannonville.” Up next for RMP Racing’s Ross Millson will be Shannonville Motorsport Park, Shannonville, ON – August 28 31, for the 7th and final round of the 2008 Parts Canada Superbike Championship.
