Team Zyvax fresh from the recent signing of Ben Bostrom and Chris Clark to ride Graves Motorsports supported Yamaha R1 race bikes in the WERA series, wasted no time placing themselves on the podium’s top step! Ben and Chris performed flawlessly; the pair of riders brought the Team Zyvax Yamaha R1 to a commanding 9 lap lead by the end of the 4 hour endurance race to take the victory! In a notable appearance, Zyvax Yamaha R6 riders Dane Westby and Clinton Seller came through for a 3rd place finish after the riders moved to a backup bike early in the race. Benny “Benito” Solis on his Graves Motorsports Yamaha R6 fought a hard battle with a five rider pack for 12 laps, finishing in 1st place. This was the 16 year old rider’s season opener as a Team Graves Motorsports rider! Benny will be racing at all of the 2010 WERA rounds on the Graves Motorsports YZF-R6. More, from a press release issued by KTM: Decatur, TX – KTM support rider Ty Howard and his Ridesmart/RPM Cycle/KTM Team took their second victory of the year at round 2 of the CMRA Endurance Series at Eagles Canyon Raceway. Ty Howard started the race for his team pulling away to a 14 second lead before the race was flagged on lap 9. The lead was erased and the race was restarted. The team put Bryan West on board to finish up the first tank of gas. Cooler temperatures along with a delay in the race caused the rear tire to cool off prematurely causing excessive wear to the tire. The lap times slowed and the lead was lost. During the rider change, the team noticed the tire issue but did not want to use the time to change the tire, and decided to put Howard back on until their scheduled pit. With other teams suffering through the same issue, Howard was able to retake the lead and open a small gap just before the second pit and first rear tire change. During the pit stop, the fire extinguisher was set down a fraction of a second early and the team suffered a 30 second penalty. The third member of the team, Ricky Jordan, was now aboard the RC8. Jordan quickly caught the lead team and moved the Ride Smart/RPM Cycle/KTM Team back into the lead. As the race continued, the KTM team further stretched their lead. At the final pit stop, the crew did a rear tire change in a remarkable time of 10 seconds. Howard followed up the quick pit stop with an even more notable lap time running a long stint of 1:51 lap times near the end of the endurance race that gave the KTM team a two lap advantage going into the fourth hour. As the second place team pushed to catch the KTM squad, they suffered a crash that put them out of contention. This allowed the Ridesmart/RPM Cycle/KTM Team to put it on cruise control and bring home the victory with a 6 lap cushion over 2nd place. The following day, the CMRA conducted the second round of its sprint race series. Ty Howard raced the KTM 1190 RC8-R in Superstock A, Superbike A and the Formula One classes. In the Superstock A class, Howard easily grabbed the win, finishing 32 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. In the Superbike A class, Howard got off to a 5th place start and quickly moved into 2nd on lap two. After looking for an opening to make a pass for the lead, he finally made it happen in turn 3 and went on to pull away to an 11 second victory. The final race, Formula One, Howard made a slight miscalculation off the start dropping the front tire into the mud. Now in last place, Howard still managed to turn the fastest lap time of the race to get within one second of the current lap record. The KTM 1190 RC8-R proved to be the strongest bike in the open category as Howard eventually ran down the leaders on the white flag lap before taking the win. The KTM RC8 and RC8-R finished yet another weekend undefeated. The Team would like to thank its sponsors: KTM North America, Inc, KTM PowerParts, Comedy Defensive Driving, Dunlop Tires, Ride Smart, RPM Cycles, Motorex, DynoJet, Lockhart Phillips, Arai Helmets, Komodo Gear, 5th Gear Motorsports, Totally Graphic Designs, Kyle USA, RaceworX, Vesrah, AVTEQ, Skip Barber Superbike School Powered by KTM and North Texas Superbikes. More, from a press release issued by Putter Power Media: BROCK’S PERFORMANCE EXHAUST AND & BST WHEELS WIN WITH TEAM HOOTERS AT WERA NATIONAL OPENER DAYTON, Ohio. (March 17, 2010) – Adding to the hundreds of victories and many championships garnered at the highest levels of motorcycle dragracing, Brock’s Performance scored three wins in its first national-level roadrace event. Armed with a Brock’s Performance CT Dual titanium exhaust system and BST carbon-fiber wheels, Team Hooters’ Tim Hunt rode to victory in the Formula 1, Senior Superbike Heavyweight and WERA/A Superbike Expert classes at the opening round of the 2010 WERA National Challenge series, held at Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah, Georgia. He was also the runner up in Open/A Superstock. Hunt, who holds the unofficial track record and came into the races as a favorite, said: “These were my first National wins. Getting three of them in one day was a special bonus. During the off-season, I lost 25 lbs. and built a whole new level of fitness. And so did our bike! The ultra-light BST carbon-fiber wheels and Brock’s Performance exhaust made a huge impact on the team’s results. For his trio of wins, the Lavergne, Tennessee racer pocketed $450 of the $2100 available in BST contingency payout from Brock’s Performance over the entire WERA race weekend. Brock’s Performance president Brock Davidson, who won the 2000 AMA/Dragbike Superbike National Championship as a Suzuki-sponsored dragracer, was ecstatic with Team Hooters’ success: “We’ve experienced many wins, but scoring three in this venue with an off-the-shelf exhaust system and wheels is beyond words. In dragracing, the parts really matter. In roadracing the rider is key. Knowing that we supplied Tim the parts to do his job is fantastic. We knew that the BST wheels and the pipes we use at the dragstrip work well on the street; now we’ve seen their effectiveness in roadracing.” “We felt confident coming into the season with a strong crew, fast riders and proven bike,” said Hooters team owner Steve DeCamp. “With a few tweaks to our GSX-R1000’s suspension to compensate for the lightweight wheels, the bike handled amazingly and was an absolute rocketship. We’re looking forward to having Talladega specialists Tim Hunt and Opie Caylor in the saddle for the next race.” Expanding upon 25 years of sportbike dragracing innovation and success on the quarter-mile, Brock’s Performance is proud to be involved with this winning team.
