Double Dalke Motorsports in the WERA-AMA Grand National Finals at Road Atlanta. Fans of endurance racing were treated to beautiful October weather and one of the closest final points race imaginable at the final round of WERA-AMA National Endurance. Dalke Motorsports fielded two teams again in hopes of pulling out the class championship and once again getting a double podium. Dalke Motorsports team1 (DM1) jumped out to the class lead and moved up as high as fourth overall on their Interstate Cycle Yamaha R6. While Dalke Motorsports 2(DM2) started their identical Yamaha R6 at the back of the grid and slowly worked its way up to third in class and 11th overall as a result of early pit stop strategy that allowed the team to stay out beyond some of the competition. But running two teams sometimes means sacrifices by the second team, so DM2 had to do a second short stint on one of the riders in case he would be needed to finish the race on team one. This forced DM2 to make an extra gas-n-go stop late in the race and DM2 had to settle for 4th in class and 12th overall. DM1 took the lead and never looked back and won the class and held on to 6th overall to close out the season with a second win at Road Atlanta. Both teams opted for Pirelli’s yellow compound front and rear tires to run the whole race without a tire change and put the pressure on any team that chose softer tires and planned a change. With Vesrah’s SRJL brake pads and the Thermosman tuned Ohlins suspension the team made a great run for the class championship and after all the points were calculated DM1 finishes second in class by just 0.45 points. In addition to doing so well in endurance racing this year Dalke Motorsports endurance rider Giovanni Rojas used one of last years endurance bikes in the Suzuki GSXR 600 Cup race and finished fourth in a field that included a World Suzuki Cup winner and a three time cup winner. More, from a press release issued by TVR/Team Moe’s: TVR/Team Moe’s Second Overall in Race and in Points at Season Finale BRASELTON, Ga. Team Velocity Racing/Team Moe’s finished the WERA National Endurance Series season on a high note after racing their Heavyweight Superstock Yamaha YZF-R1 to a finish of second overall in Friday’s four-hour race at Road Atlanta. TVR was at the top of the Heavyweight Superstock podium, too, and the strong finish solidified their second-place standing in the overall championship. The team already wrapped up the class championship last month at Jennings GP. Chuck Ivey, James Stroud and Josh Day ran a nearly flawless race. At the checkered flag, the team was less than three laps behind winning team Vesrah Suzuki, who save time in the pits over TVR because of their Superbike specs. Despite having no quick-change setup, a stock tank and DOT tires, TVR was able to pull a lead of three laps over the third-place team. One advantage was the ability to run all four hours on the same Pirelli front tire, saving significant time in the pits. Standing on the overall podium and a decisive class win were an appropriate end to the season: TVR won the Heavyweight Superstock class in every round but two. “Every season has its challenges and for each race, whoever was at the track had to do everything that needed to be done to win. It showed in our performance,” commented Ivey. “We rode hard and were well-prepared for pit stops. James, Josh and I knew we’d have to step up this season so we could still be the best.” “Even without a steady pit crew, we were all able to pull together. We all worked really well together, and that’s what makes us better,” said Stroud. “All in all we’ve had good luck. I wish we could have battled 5150 to the end; it would have made the championship sweeter.” This year marked Day’s first full season of endurance racing, and his first year of competition on a 1000cc motorcycle. “I’ve learned a lot this season, especially riding the R1,” Day said. “I had a lot of fun and it’s been a good year for me. What I learned on the R1 really helped when I jumped on the 600, too.” Day finished second in the 600 Superbike championship and third in 600 Superstock, out-performing a number of seasoned veterans. TVR would like to thank the crew members who helped keep the team on track this year, including Michael Dunn, Chris Cutright, Bill Day and Mike Wheelis.
