THE MID-OHIO SCHOOL OPENS FOR ITS 19TH SEASON THIS SATURDAY WITH HONDA TEEN DEFENSIVE DRIVING PROGRAM DUBLIN, OH (March 11) The Mid-Ohio School, owned and operated by Green Savoree Mid-Ohio, LLC, hosts a Honda Teen Defensive Driving Program on Saturday, March 12, opening its 19th season of driving instruction. With over 180 dates spanning 16 driving programs and another 20-plus Performance Track Riding dates over four motorcycle formats in addition to several special events, the school is expecting to nearly 5,000 participants this year. Under new ownership in 2011, The Mid-Ohio School’s personnel and programs remain unchanged. Led by General Manager David Roush, the staff of driving instructors is composed of former race and championship winning drivers such as Adam Andretti, Jim Bishop, Tommy Byrne, Brett Roubinek and Brian Till. Roubinek also manages the Performance Track Riding Program and its coaches, many of whom have pro racing experience under their leathers, such as Ryan Kerr, Allan Pett, Eric Pinson and Brock Terrell. “When Kim [Green] and I purchased Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, a crucial part of the acquisition was The Mid-Ohio School,” Kevin Savoree, President and COO of Green Savoree Mid-Ohio, LLC said. “The excellent staff and thorough programs that comprise the school far exceed anything we’ve been a part of to date. I’m very excited to see it up close throughout the year.” The school graduated nearly 4,800 students last year, including 1,400 teenage drivers, many through the KeyBank Key to Safe Teen Driving Program it puts on with KeyBank and Kumho Tires USA. “We’ve been fortunate to see our record number of yearly enrollments broken each of the last two seasons and are hoping for more of the same in 2011. Behind the strength of our partners, led by American Honda, our longest standing relationship, The Mid-Ohio School has been able to continue to expand its offering and schedule almost 200 dates a year to serve drivers and motorcyclists of any ability level,” said Steve Bidlack, director of The Mid-Ohio School. The Mid-Ohio School also gained a new partnership last year with the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) and was admitted into the AAA Approved Driving School Network. Those new relationships are added to accreditation from the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) and Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) as an official school. “It’s an honor to be recognized by two more organizations like Ohio State Highway Patrol and AAA with such a respected heritage. Both put a strong emphasis on safety and education which matches up perfectly with what we do every day at The Mid-Ohio School,” said Bidlack. On the motorcycle side, 1,800 riders enrolled across four Performance Track Riding formats during 2010 the first full year The Mid-Ohio School operated it completely under its own roof. Additionally, returning for the third year is the KTM Race_Orange Ride and Fly program offering six dates in 2011. This unique setup allows riders to test a new KTM RC8 R or 990 SMR, with fuel, tires, prep and instruction included in the track day fee while saving them the cost of transporting a bike to the track. New this year, riders can rent a KTM RC8 R on any schedule track day. Enrollments for the 2011 season are ongoing and a special offer of $25 off any defensive driving program is available through March 31.
