Tornado warnings brought an early end to Friday practice for this weekend’s WERA National Endurance Series and National Challenge Series event at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway near Talladega, Alabama. “The sirens are going off again,” said WERA President Evelyne Clarke when reached by cell phone at the racetrack at about 2:35 p.m. local time. “They’ve been going off since the red flag at about 1:30 p.m. We have the medical crews keeping in touch with the county via radio and the county is keeping us appraised of where these storms are and now we’re just sitting and waiting until we get an all-clear. There are some pretty bad cells and reports of some funnel clouds.” Clarke said that if race officials received an all-clear from the county, practice would resume. In the meantime, both rounds of scheduled qualifying had been moved up to shortly after noon, and were completed. Qualifying results follow: OPEN SUPERSTOCK QUALIFYING 1. Caylor, who won all four WERA classes entered last time he raced at Talladega in early February of this year, qualified for the pole while testing Dunlop’s new D211 race tire. Caylor qualified his Suzuki GSX-R1000 while running a 57.888, just ahead of Rob Jensen and Tray Batey.
