Toyota 200: Toye Fastest in Friday Qualifying Jeremy Toye, dominant in Toyota Cup competition this season at Willow Springs International Raceway, took another step toward his second straight win at the richest road race in North America, posting the fastest lap in qualifying for the Toyota 200. Riding his Lee’s Cycle-tuned Suzuki GSX-R1000, on a relatively mild day for September in the Southern California high desert, Toye put in 16 hot laps Friday at the 2.5-mile main track at WSIR, notching a 1:20.608 on his 14th lap and backing it up with a 1:20.846. Toye, winner of last year’s Toyota 200 and winner of seven out of eight Toyota Cup races with the Willow Springs Motorcycle Club this season, was the only rider in the 1:20 range on Friday. Both of Toye’s two fastest laps were quicker than second-fastest Jason Pridmore, back from retirement and looking to repeat his win in the inaugural Toyota 200 in 2002. Pridmore was more than four-10ths back with a fast lap of 1:21.109, quicker than provisional pole sitter Jason Curtis, who ran a 1:21.608, and Jason Perez, who turned a 1:22.432. The Toyota 200 motorcycle road race is a 200-mile contest with a $150,000 purse and $50,000 to the winner. Just before Sunday’s race is the Roadracing World 250/50, a 20-lap, 50-mile race for 250 GP machines. Qualifying for the 250/50 is scheduled for Saturday. More, from a press release issued by WSMC: Rosamond, CA The starting line-up for the 6th Annual Toyota 200 at Southern California’s famed Willow Springs Raceway was established Friday afternoon when Lee Cycle’s Jeremy Toye of San Diego turned in the fastest lap with a 1:20.608, representing an average speed of 111.651mph. Three Jasons Jason Pridmore, winner of the inaugural Toyota 200, Jason Curtis, top AMA privateer and 1st round fast qualifier, as well as WSMC top performer Jason Perez, took 2nd through 4th respectively, each with qualifying times in well under 1:22.5. The 6th Annual Toyota 200 is the feature race of an entire weekend of motorcycle action dubbed “Roadracing’s Richest Weekend.” Over $150,000 in cash and contingencies will be doled out at Willow Springs Raceway this weekend. Saturday starts off with qualifying for the Roadracing World 250/50 and 33 classes of WSMC club racing followed by an evening of entertainment at the Budweiser Balcony for both fans and racers. Sunday kicks off with grand opening celebrations honoring Vincent Haskovec, Grand Marshall for this year’s event and holder of the fastest lap ever run during a Toyota 200. Roadracing World’s 250/50 will see many of the world’s best riders including five-time 250/50 winner, Rich Oliver competing in the 50 mile challenge for nimble 250cc racers. The Toyota 200 is a no-holds barred, grueling 200 mile contest that challenges both man and machine. The winner receives over $50,000 in prize money, one of the richest prizes in motorcycle roadracing. Practices start at 8am both days with race events beginning mid-morning. Admission for the entire weekend is $30/person and includes entrance both days, pit access, free parking and camping privileges. Children 8 and under are free with paid adult.
