Vesrah Suzuki won the six-hour Bridgestone WERA/AMA National Endurance race Saturday at Miller Motorsports Park, in Tooele, Utah. Lee Acree, Tray Batey, John Jacobi and Chris Ulrich completed 163 laps of the 3.06-mile course (498.78 miles) on their Pirelli-shod GSX-R1000, winning the race by four laps. It was the third consecutive win of 2007 for the defending Champions. MPT Racing #2’s Danny Eslick, Blake Young and Chris “Opie” Caylor came from the back of the grid on their Dunlop-equipped Suzuki GSX-R1000 and swapped the overall race lead with Vesrah Suzuki for much of the race. In fact, MPT Racing #2 led Vesrah Suzuki by as much as 84 seconds at one point, before a red flag in the fourth hour erased MPT Racing #2’s advantage. Shortly after the race resumed, the engine in MPT Racing #2’s Suzuki expired. From there, Vesrah Suzuki rode unchallenged to victory. MPT Racing #2’s retirement opened the door for TVR/Team Moe’s Josh Day, Chuck Ivey and James Stroud to bring their Pirelli-tired Yamaha YZF-R1 home second overall and first in the Heavyweight Superstock category. Bp Concepts (Brandon Parrish, Bo Lemastus, Andy Feuersthaler and Ben Thompson) passed Suzuki Rider Development (Chad Lewin/Morgan Broadhead/Martin Cardenas) in the late stages of the race to finish third overall and first in the Mediumweight Superbike division on their Dunlop-fitted Suzuki GSX-R600. Mediumweight Superbike contender Suzuki Rider Development finished fourth overall, 48 seconds behind Bp Concepts. Fifth overall and the Mediumweight Superstock class victory went to Millnic Media Honda, which featured Melissa Paris, Steven Breckenridge and AMA Formula Xtreme Champion Josh Hayes riding a Dunlop-equipped Honda CBR600RR. Hayes, Paris’ fiancé, was drafted into riding duty at the last moment when the team’s regular third rider, Greg White, was injured in a crash while practicing on Thursday. Bad Rad Racing’s Joe Schoch and Aaron Aronson overcame a host of problems, including a crash, to win the Lightweight Superbike class on a Suzuki SV650 fitted with Dunlop slicks. Of the 39 teams that entered the race, 36 started and 25 were running at the finish. Teams had to deal with moderate-to-heavy winds, dirt and sand blowing across the track, and ambient temperatures over 100 degrees F. 2007 Bridgestone WERA/AMA National Endurance Championship Miller Motorsports Park Tooele, Utah June 16, 2007 Provisional Overall Race Results: 1.
