Dominguez Grabs Four, Howard and Turpin Both Take Two Wins With CMRA At Texas World Speedway

The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) second round weekend saw larger grids, big names, and non-stop action. Temperatures in the 80s and a light breeze on both race days made very favorable conditions for fast speeds and a large spectator turnout this past weekend, March 24-25, at the 2.9-mile Texas World Speedway course in College Station, Texas.

Dustin Dominguez rocked the B Superstock Expert, B Superbike Expert, South Central Race Center C Superstock Expert, and Island Racing Services C Superbike Expert races, taking the win in all four classes. Dominguez had this to say, “The FMF Factory Triumph Daytona felt awesome with the new Pirelli tires we tried for the first time this weekend. The grip was amazing, and the bike felt great. It was really good racing, too, I started dead last on the grid for C Superstock and won by 0.01 of a second at the line. Everything went very well. I can’t thank my sponsors and my friends enough for their help. I’m looking forward to being ready for the next rounds with CMRA and AMA.”

Local favorite Ty Howard worked through some mechanical issues on his KTM RC8 and rode away with wins in Formula 1 Expert and Heavyweight Twins. “Overall, it was a bit of a struggle this weekend,” says Howard. “A rubber O-ring failed on a valve stem during the warm-up lap of A Superstock, and gave me a flat tire that kept me from the race. On Saturday, there were some issues with the endurance bike that kept me from getting as much seat time as I wanted. I rode pretty good, but I wish I could’ve found another second and a half. I have a good plan for Eagles Canyon and am looking forward to the next round.”

Shane Turpin on the Boulder Motorsports Ducati had the fastest lap of the day with a 1:43.26, and came away with the wins in 212Decals.com A Superbike Expert and Formula 40 Heavyweight Expert. Turpin had this to say, “We needed to get some testing in for World Superbike. CMRA has such good grids with lots of talent, and we thought Texas World Speedway world be a good track to do it at. Mick Boasman from Nemesis had come down to work on the suspension with the Boulder Motorsports guys, and we wanted to try everything we could to get ready for World Superbike. This is the second time I’ve ridden the bike, and it’s just amazing. Everything went really well. I had a great time racing with Ty. He’s a great rider. And I can’t say thank you enough to David and Don Sprague and Boulder Motorsports for making this happen. We did turn the fastest lap time of the day, and that’s all due to the Yamaha Champions Riding School teaching me how to find those apexes and helping me fine tune my body positioning so I can ride the beast.”

Top Novices from the weekend included: Will Zamora took away three wins in Formula 1 Novice, Onroad Offroad Suspension A Superstock Novice, and A Superbike Novice. AJ Flores pulled down three wins in B Superbike Novice, House of Paint C Superbike Novice, and Moto Liberty C Superstock Novice. The new North Texas Superbikes Formula1 Ladies class more than doubled in size to 11 starters, and Jane Ryder took away her second win in the class. CMRA Endurance Series: Village Idiots Win the Six Hour at Texas World Speedway

On March 24, Village Idiots won the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) 6-Hour Endurance race at Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas to take the overall championship points lead after Round Two of the nine event series. John Orchard, Chris Headley, Blake Cochran and Brandon Cleland rode a flawless race from flag to flag aboard the RaceworX-sponsored Yamaha YZF-R6 equipped with a 7-gallon fuel tank and Dunlop GP N-Tec tires for 160 laps around the 2.9 mile road course in route to a five lap margin of victory over the field.

A red flag stopped the action at the four hour mark with the Village Idiots leading by four laps. The final two overall podium spots remained up for grabs between the top three A Superbike teams of the day, each deadlocked at lap 127. With just 50 minutes remaining when green flag racing resumed, and each of the A Superbike teams requiring a final pit stop for rider and fuel to get to the checkered flag, it was an endurance sprint to the finish. When the checkered flag dropped, all three teams remained on the same lap, 155, but second overall podium honors went to NORDCO Racing (Todd Larson, Brandon Young, Michael Rochester), while former CMRA Endurance Championship #1 plate holder, Desert Rats Racing (Derek Thomas, Stephen Guynes, Rick Hogge) brought home third place overall in their return to the CMRA Endurance Series.

212Decals.com (Dirk Anderson, William Guthrie, Brandt Dillon, Landon Talley, Allan Campbell) led the field at the restart, but finished just off the overall podium in fourth overall with a costly pit stop.

Lone Star Track Days (Mark Niemi, Andy Galindo, Eric Williams), current number 3 plate holder, rounded out the top five overall on the day with 152 laps at the checkered flag.

Normal front runner and current CMRA Endurance Series Number 1 plate holder, Team SCRaceCenter.com KTM Racing (Ty Howard, Bryan West, Ryan Andrews, Shea Fouchek, Jeremy Louder) led early in the race but finished nine laps behind the leaders in sixth overall after enduring a number of pit stop and mechanical issues throughout the race.

In the Formula 2 class, Hellcat Racing (Aaron Gore, Tad Murley, Ulug Bayramoglu, David Tiede, Blaine Johnson) brought home the class win with a 7th overall finish at 145 laps, a full 5 laps in front of their closest class challenger, Team EDS (Michael Humphries, Alan Phillips, Shane Zelm, Scott Eichhorn, Darrell Ricks) who recorded 140 laps at the checkered flag.

The CMRA returns to action at April 14-15 at Eagles Canyon Raceway in Decatur, Texas for round three of the CMRA Endurance series. Check out www.cmraracing.com for more information.
