The battle for the win was between Eugene and Kenan Sofuoglu on another Honda and neither gave an inch until the last lap when Eugene made a decisive pass and held on to take his sixth victory out of 10 starts to win in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. Miguel starting from 12th finished a career best sixth, less than four seconds from the podium in what is his best race performance ever at World Championship level. Wildcard Parkalgar Honda racer for this round Christian Iddon took a further 3/4s of a second from his lap times and despite being held up early on finished a creditable 17th to show genuine potential. Parkalgar Honda now enjoys a summer break before returning to action on 5th September at the 11th round of the series at the Nurburgring in Germany. My plan had to change several times through the race. First I made a break but then Kenan put in some quick laps and then I decided to drop back and see where he was weak. I spotted his weak areas but he could have been sandbagging so I passed him again on the last lap with plenty of corners to spare and found that he really was weaker and not pretending. It is especially nice to beat Kenan in this sort of race because he is not used to losing this sort of fight and that makes it an important psychological win. My Parkalgar Honda was brilliant, we ran faster lap times than I expected and it was the best bike on the day.” Miguel: “My Parkalgar Honda was perfect and I was very comfortable running the pace to fight for fifth and sixth places. When Chaz (Davies) passed me he was quite aggressive and sideways and I lost two places. I then sat behind Lagrive and we were catching Harms. I left my overtake on Lagrive too late to then make a pass on Chaz but I am delighted with my new personal best. I was only three-seconds from the podium and in the top six; I am so very happy and must thank my Parkalgar Honda team, the bike they gave me was fantastic.” Christian: “For my first time on a Supersport bike and only my 16th road race meeting, I have done a lot of learning and got faster with every lap. As the tyre wore in the race I got quicker. At the start of the race I had to avoid a faller and lost more than 10-seconds; if not for that I may have scored points. I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and the Parkalgar Honda squad of Eugene and Miguel has been brilliant, they have the best bike and I know what the riders are capable of so I know what I must do if I want to be able to compete at this level.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “The best ever results for the Parkalgar Honda team at its second home round in the UK. Well done to the whole Parkalgar Honda squad and thank you to the many fans and supporters that came to see us this weekend.” More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Fujiwara Fights On Lascorz Goes Out injured WSS, Silverstone, Great Britain, 1 August 2010 Katsuaki Fujiwara rode his official Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R into the points at Silverstone after finding his race set-up not ideal for the often bumpy English circuit. He was the lone finisher from the Kawasaki Motocard.com team as third place qualifier Joan Lascorz was involved in a first lap accident after he and another rider touched exiting turn one, and Joan fell. A following rider could not avoid Joan and he took the full brunt of a heavy impact from the other rider’s front wheel. The accident meant a complete restart of the race, still over 16 laps. After being admitted to hospital Joan was diagnosed with four broken ribs, an injury to his shoulder, a finger injury and some blood inside his lung. The other rider, Roberto Tamburini had a broken left collarbone. Joan is being kept in hospital in England for around a week and although it is too early to predict how fast his recovery will be, it is expected to take some weeks. After the accident for Joan, and Katsuaki’s issues over the bumps at Silverstone, Lorenzini by Leoni Ninja ZX-6R rider Fabien Foret was the highest placed Kawasaki rider, 12th. In the championship table Joan is still third overall, with 168 points, while Kenan Sofuoglu leads with 203 points and race winner Eugene Laverty has 186. Katsuaki is ninth, Fabien 12th overall. Katsuaki Fujiwara: “In the race my rear suspension set-up was not so good and there was too much movement. This morning we tried more adjustment on the rear, but then I fell. So we had to go in the race with the set-up from yesterday. So there was a bit too much movement over the bumps, and could not keep my speed up. We will check the data now to see what we find. I wish Joan very well after his big crash.” More, from a press release issued by GNS Racing: World Championship Points For Lowes At Silverstone GNS Racing’s Sam Lowes put in an excellent ride at Silverstone today when he finished in tenth place in the British round of the World Supersport Championship. Competing as a wild card at the event, Sam, from Lincoln, and the Southampton-based team improved their pace throughout the weekend as they got used to both the World Championship competition and the different specification Pirelli tyres and were rewarded with a brilliant top ten finish, no mean feat for the team in their first ever World Championship race. Despite suffering a heavy crash in Friday’s practice session, Sam qualified in a strong 17th place right behind regular British Supersport Championship rivals James Westmoreland and Billy McConnell but the original race was red flagged due to an incident involving Championship contender Joan Lascorz and Roberto Tamburini. A good start by Sam in the restart saw him jump up to 13th place at the end of the first lap and two laps later he was up to 11th and on the threshold of the top ten as he overhauled regular World Championship riders Mark Aitchison and Fabien Foret. By lap five he had broken into the top ten having passed another former race winner Katsuaki Fujiwara, also setting what would prove to be the eighth fastest lap of the race. At half race distance, Sam was challenging David Salom for ninth and for the next few laps enjoyed a tussle with the Spaniard as well as regular sparring partner Westmoreland and Fujiwara. Salom was the quicker of the quartet and got by Sam on the tenth lap but the 19-year-old stuck with him and the pair edged away from the group of riders behind. Salom continued to pull clear and eventually took eighth but Sam was secure in tenth and only just missed out on taking ninth from Massimo Roccoli at the end of the hard-fought 16 laps. Sam Lowes: “To get a good result in a race like that was spot on and to get eighth fastest lap shows just how much we worked over the weekend. I was on the back foot after crashing on Friday but then we turned it around and I got a good set up for the race and knew we would be strong in the race and we came good. We proved that we can do it on the World stage. I’d like to say a big thank you to the team for the opportunity and we’re looking forward to Brands Hatch next weekend and to maintain our lead in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship.” Gary Stubbington: “To finish in tenth place in our very first World Championship race is absolutely awesome, especially as we had to overcome all manner of problems. The big crash on Friday set us back a bit and it was a real challenge to get used to the tyres and getting the suspension to work with them but everyone involved with the team did a phenomenal job all weekend and it was an absolute pleasure to see them being rewarded with such a strong race result. Sam’s race pace would have been good enough for the second row of the grid and I really cannot have asked for anything more from anyone. We’re only a small team from Southampton but seeing how we’ve grown and developed over the course of the season is a real testament to everyone’s hard work and efforts and we’re all really happy and confident for the rest of the year so long may it continue!” More, from a press release issued by ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing: The “Four Musketeers” of the ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing team redeemed themselves in race. The Triumph riders took to the track determined to do well and engaged in many duels to the excitement of the huge crowd that turned up at Silverstone. Chaz Davies finished fourth, Lagrive and Salom took seventh and eighth places respectively, while Iannuzzo finished in the fourteenth position. After these results, Chaz Davies strenghtened his fourth place in the overall stadings, while Salom remained just three points behind fifth place. The team will take to the track again in early September at Nurburgring, after the summer break. CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 4th : “I could have finished on the podium, too bad I made that mistake”¦The bike lost adherence on the back. I don’t know how it happened, I only pushed the “speed limiter” command. I then understood what caused this but I had already lost contact with the top 3. I only managed to pass Harms, after a nice duel”. MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 7th : “I got a good start and had a very good pace, which allowed me to stay with the leading pack. The changes we made in warm up turned out to be good. By the end of the race, I too passed Harms but then had some issues on the front end. I didn’t take any risks and gathered important points for the overall standings”. DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 8th : “Unfortunately, I made a bad start and it took me a while to overtake the riders in front of me. Then I went a lot faster and finished behind the group battling for fourth place”. VITTORIO IANNUZZO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 14th : “My race was practically decided at the beginning when I lost many seconds in the early laps. But I fought back and recovered a few positions, passed the slower riders and was faster than I was in practice. I then engaged in a duel with Fujiwara and managed to pass him in the last lap”.
