Walt Sipp (Buell), no time recorded More, from a press release issued by Team M4 EMGO Suzuki: LOCAL FAVORITE BLAKE YOUNG SIXTH IN ROAD AMERICA PRACTICE Team M4 EMGO Suzuki was met by occasional rain showers and high winds as they opened the Road America AMA race weekend in Elkhart Lake, WI on Friday. The squad’s roster is more than filled this weekend this weekend, as Martin Cardenas returns after missing the last two rounds due to injuries suffered during the Supersport race at Auto Club Speedway. Meanwhile, Michael Barnes, who was drafted to substitute for the Colombian, has continued with the team this weekend as well as picking up fill-in duties in Superstock for Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki. A week after running at the front of the Supersport and Superstock races at Miller Motorsports Park before suffering from misfortune in both contests, Blake Young led the charge at his home track. The Madison, WI resident turned the sixth fastest lap in the Supersport session aboard his Pirelli-shod GSX-R600 at 2:21.382 and was seventh fastest in Superstock aboard his GSX-R1000 despite taking it easy in the damp conditions. Cory West, who scored his first-ever AMA podium finish with a third-place run in the Supersport race in Utah, was 12th best in the class’ free session today at 2:23.083. Barnes was 16th at 2:23.933. Barnes then just missed the second row in qualifying for tomorrow’s 10-lap Formula Xtreme race, qualifying on the inside of the third row with a time of 2:22.848. Cardenas did well to qualify a row further back while contending with his injuries and the stiff winds, qualifying 13th at 2:23.698. Local favorite Young said, “My guys have figured out the issue we had in Supersport last weekend and that bike is good to go. Practice felt pretty good on the 600. In Superstock the track was still a little wet and it didn’t have much rubber on it. We took it easy and just tried to get the gearing figured out and we got it all worked out right at the end. “I’m really looking forward to racing here this weekend. This is my home track and all my friends and family are here to root me on. Everything seems to be going pretty good so far.” On Saturday Team M4 EMGO Suzuki will qualify for Sunday’s Superstock and Supersport races and then Barnes and Cardenas will turn their attentions to the 60k FX race.
