Jayson Uribe Unstoppable at Buttonwillow Raceway – wins every race he entered
Jayson Uribe was back to winning ways at Buttonwillow Raceway Park last weekend, racing to three victories in the Formula Pacific series aboard his 2017 spec Honda CBR1000RR.
Starting from Pole Position after a strong showing in qualifying, the track record holder was in fine form. Crossing the line to win by 18 seconds, and 12 seconds in the two six lap Open GP and Open Superbike encounters and by almost 7 seconds in the twelve lap Formula Pacific event, the #36 was once again the rider to beat in the extreme heat. The combination of a fresh engine and the suspension help of Mike Canfield and Kirk Korenko (his Crew Chief) meant Jayson was able to lap consistently fast throughout the event. Even more impressive was the fact that Jayson’s machine was running a fresh engine, built by Jayson and the Uribe family in their home!
The defending AFM champion, Jayson’s performance over the weekend was a great confidence boost ahead of his return to the MotoAmerica series at Ridge Motorsports Park (at the end of the month), where he will line up alongside the country’s best Superbike racers. He will also contest the season finale of MotoAmerica at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in October.
Jason Uribe: “Overall it was a good weekend. We went into it wanting more than we achieved the last time we raced at Buttonwillow, where I achieved a win and two second place finishes. We had a new game plan; it was hammer down from the get-go. I didn’t want to give the others chance to follow me and learn lines etc. and I was keen to see how far we could go before hitting tire problems. It was pretty much what we did. We started each race strong and when I got to the front, I was able to lay down some fast laps and it worked well – we won all three races by decent margins. I have to say a big thanks to my team and my crew and everyone that put in the hours to make it possible. It was a hot weekend and the grip levels weren’t as they were last year, but we still got close to the lap record which was good. We tried our best to make a statement and I think we did that. It was a good way to warm-up for The Ridge at the end of the month, so I will keep training hard and look forward to being back in the MotoAmerica paddock where I am confident we can get some decent results.”
