MIC Chairman’s Awards Presented at Annual Meeting Secretary of Transportation Mary E. Peters Honored IRVINE, Calif., March 5, 2007 – Larry Little honored five recipients with Motorcycle Industry Council Chairman’s Awards at the MIC Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, held in conjunction with the Dealernews International Powersports Dealer Expo. The awards, presented by MIC Chairman and Cycle World Publisher and Vice President Larry Little, acknowledge significant contributions to motorcycling and the industry. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary E. Peters, who is a motorcyclist herself and a strong advocate for rider safety, was honored for more than two decades of service in her field. President Bush appointed Peters to head the Department of Transportation in September. She is the principle advisor to the president in all matters regarding federal transportation programs and policy. The department includes the Federal Highway Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Peters completed the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic RiderCourseSM in 2004. “As we celebrate the 14th straight year of sales growth for motorcycles, I’m proud that we can honor Secretary Peters and four other top experts who have helped us get where we are today, and continue working with the MIC to preserve, protect and promote our powersports business,” Little said. Retired forester Tom Crimmins received one of the inscribed glass awards in Indianapolis. Crimmins worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 32 years and has more than two decades of experience planning and designing off-highway vehicle trails. He now serves as a trails consultant and is active in many projects to promote and protect off-highway vehicle recreation. Crimmins is an adviser to the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council, the BlueRibbon Coalition and American Trails. He’s also a spokesperson for Americans for Responsible Recreational Access, and was one of the primary curricula developers of (and is a lead presenter for) the MIC/SVIA-sponsored OHV Route Designation Workshops, bringing together Forest Service staff and off-highway riders. Russ Ehnes, the executive director of the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council since 1998, received a chairman’s award. Ehnes is a founding member of the Montana Trail Vehicle Riders Association and the Great Falls Trailbike Riders Association. Throughout his career, he has promoted OHV recreation through extensive work with outdoor and conservation groups as well as government agencies. Under his leadership, NOHVCC has developed extensive programs to teach and promote responsible OHV recreation. This includes the development and implementation of the MIC/SVIA Route Designation Workshops and other efforts designed to share the latest OHV management techniques with both land managers and recreationists. Chairman of Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties Fred Fox was a 2007 recipient of an MIC Chairman’s Award. Fox served on the MIC Board of Directors for 13 years, the longest tenure for an aftermarket/allied trades representative. He also was a long-time, active member of the MIC Aftermarket/Allied Trades Committee and Discover Today’s Motorcycling Subcommittee, and was instrumental in the recent formation of the American V-Twin Committee. Newly retired from the board, Fox plans to continue his long support of the MIC, in particular the V-Twin Committee and DTM’s public awareness efforts. Former MIC chairman Bob Moffit accepted an award. Now semi-retired, Moffit was vice president of marketing & product management for motorcycles & watercraft at Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. He first served on the MIC board in 1980, was chairman for nine years, sat on the board of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, and was a founding member of the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America. Most recently, Moffit has provided a great deal of his time and effort in the development and establishment of the MIC’s new Powersports Standard Protocol online parts ordering system. The MIC, located in Irvine, Calif., is a not-for-profit national trade association representing manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, scooters, motorcycle parts and accessories, and members of allied trades.
