USGPRU National Championship, Local Title Fights on Tap in Final Motorcycle Racing Weekend of the Season at Miller Motorsports Park TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (October 1, 2008) “” Two-wheeled enthusiasts have one last chance to come out and enjoy some action-packed racing this weekend, October 4-5, at Miller Motorsports Park, as the track presents its final motorcycle racing weekend of the 2008 season. The weekend will include the National Championship final for the United States Grand Prix Riders Union (USGPRU) as well as the season finales for the Honda Presents the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains road racing series and the Plaza Cycle Utah Supermoto Championship. The USGPRU provides a direct springboard for talented young American and Canadian riders to make the jump to professional racing. The USGPRU 125 Grand Prix National Championship® and 250 Grand Prix National Championship® are really each two series in one. Riders can compete for regional championships in the Eastern and Western regions, or they can compete for the National Championship. For this championship, riders tally the points earned from their home region races plus one out-of-region event. These points are carried forward to this weekend’s U.S. National Championship round. The top points-earning rider will be crowned National Champion. The USGPRU also includes the new Moriwaki MD250H Powered by Honda class, utilizing custom GP chassis with Honda CRF250X engines. This is an excellent entry-level, age-limited (12-16) spec class that has been very warmly received and hotly contested this season. Among the riders competing this weekend will be Benny Solis, a USGPRU graduate who was crowned the champion of the Red Bull U.S. Rookie Cup last weekend, and Melissa Paris, wife of 2007 AMA Formula Xtreme champion Josh Hayes, who has signed to race in the FIM Supersport World Championship in 2009. In the Honda Presents the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains Series, championships are mathematically up for grabs in all but two of the 19 classes that will be contested, but all eyes will be on the three-way fight among Shane Turpin (182 points), defending champ Aaron Clark (180) and Josh Graham (176) for the coveted No. 1 plate in the King of the Mountain GTO class. The Plaza Cycle Utah Supermoto Championship still has three of its 10 class championships up for grabs Mitey 65/125, Asphalt and Open Intermediate but two of those will almost certainly change, as 13-year-old phenom Noah Talley will be in Alabama for the Red Bull U.S. Rookie Cup tryouts and unable to defend his lead in Asphalt and Open Intermediate. The Supermoto event will take place on Saturday. Off the track, Miller Motorsports Park’s new off-road course will be open to the public for the first time for an Open House event, in which off-roaders will get to try out the course and offer feedback. Tickets for the weekend are priced at $5 daily, and kids 12 and under will be admitted free of charge.
