Yamaha Keep it Shiny & Sustainable in Mugello Mugello International Circuit (Scarperia, Italy), 31st May 2013 Yamaha Factory Racing riders Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo are doing their part for the environment and playing key roles in two very important initiatives. Nine-time world champion Rossi has been appointed as FIM Environmental Ambassador, representing the organisation’s sustainability policy. The appointment of such a high profile ambassador has clear advantages in helping to spread the key environmental messages through the motorcycling world’s various audiences, including journalists, racing fans, federations and clubs. Reigning World Champion Lorenzo is also rising to the environmental challenge with his teammate Rossi as promoter of the KISS (Keep it Shiny & Sustainable) programme. With World Environmental Day (5th June) fast approaching, the FIM, Yamaha Motor Racing, Dorna, the Mugello Circuit and IRTA are all working together to promote the green initiative, starting with activities to keep the Mugello Circuit clean over the Grand Prix weekend. Both Lorenzo and Rossi, together with other riders, will promote the initiative directly to their fans through their social media channels over the race weekend. Their fan clubs will also get involved, driving the message home as visibly as possible to keep Mugello clean. A special press conference hosted by the FIM, Dorna, IRTA, the Mugello Circuit and Yamaha Motor Racing’s General Manager Marco Riva today has kick-started the activity. Special videos are also available online from both Lorenzo and Rossi, discussing the importance of the initiative. Racing fans themselves will get to be the stars of the campaign as the Mugello Circuit have created a special KISS Mugello Facebook page (www.facebook.com/kissmugello) with a gallery of videos and images of Mugello race fans doing their bit for the environment to keep the circuit clean. The 10 best good environmental practices videos could win the opportunity to be VIP guests in Mugello in 2014. Protecting the environment is something that everyone in the World Championship takes very seriously. We need to show the world that although we are using high performance engines, we are conscious of our commitment to taking care of the environment in the best way we possibly can. There is a lot of research and development done in this sport in order to reduce fuel consumption. Next year the official factory machinery will be reducing fuel tank capacity from 21 to 20 litres, so fuel consumption is essential. When you are racing in a beautiful environment like Tuscany and the nature is unbelievably stunning, it is even more important to care about the surroundings and leave it as you find it.”
