Vesrah Suzuki’s Tray Batey, Chris Ulrich, John Jacobi and Mark Junge rode a Pirelli-shod Suzuki GSX-R1000 to victory in the Bridgestone WERA/AMA National Endurance Series four-hour race Friday at Road Atlanta.

Vesrah Suzuki (which clinched the overall 2007 WERA/AMA National Endurance Championship and the Heavyweight Superbike Class Championship at Jennings GP two weeks ago) ran a flawless race, completing 160 laps of the 2.5-mile course to win the event by three laps.

Batey rode the first stint, followed by Ulrich, Jacobi and Ulrich again, with Junge riding the final 30 minutes. The victory at Road Atlanta is the team’s 58th overall endurance race win.

Finishing second overall and first in the Heavyweight Superstock class were TVR/Team Moe’s Chuck Ivey, Josh Day and James Stroud. TVR/Team Moe’s (which had clinched the Heavyweight Superstock Championship before the final round) completed 157 laps on a Pirelli-shod Yamaha YZF-R1, three laps more than third place.

An oversized fuel tank and only one rear tire change helped ARNCHU Racing’s Randy Sherman and Mark Crozier finish third overall and take the win in the Mediumweight Superbike class on a Michelin-shod Suzuki GSX-R600.

Suzuki Rider Development’s Cory West and Russell Wikle battled ARNCHU down to the finish, but a smaller fuel tank on the Suzuki Rider Development GSX-R600 contributed to the pair finishing 26.545 seconds back, at fourth overall and second in class.

Dalke Motorsports’ Giovanni Rojas and Taylor Knapp used a Yamaha YZF-R6 and didn’t change Pirelli tires to finish sixth overall and first in the Mediumweight Superstock class. Dalke Motorsports’ finish combined with a rash of mechanical difficulties for Team Westby (the Mediumweight Superstock Championship points leader coming into Road Atlanta) made for some tense moments for both teams as the points were checked and double-checked after the race. When the calculations became final, the Mediumweight Superstock Championship went to Team Westby even though Dane Westby and Dustin Meador had finished the race with only fifth gear operational in their Michelin-equipped Kawasaki ZX-6R’s transmmission.

bp Concepts (Ben Thompson/Andy Feuersthaler/Chris “Opie” Caylor) had the Mediumweight Superbike Class Championship well in hand coming into the final round, but a crash by Thompson early in the race put the team’s entire season in jeopardy. The team’s crew, however, made the necessary repairs, and in spite of losing 12 laps in the first hour, bp Concepts salvaged fifth in class in the race and the 2007 Mediumweight Superbike Class Championship.

Ghetto Customs’ Chris Parrish, Tim Birdsong, Cale Swiger and Russell Stoddard rode a Dunlop-fitted Suzuki SV650 to the Lightweight Superbike class win and 16th overall in the race, securing the team’s third consecutive Championship in the class.

The race was run under near-perfect weather conditions, and there were no red-flag stoppages.
