“We’re very excited to support and be associated with VETMotorsports,” said Alamo AFCEA Chairman of the Wounded Warrior and Military Family Endowment Fund Committee, Jeff Kendall. “We had a fantastic first event together in Austin. The vets we sponsored had a great time learning how to use memory retention, respond to adrenaline proactively and enjoy some military-to-civilian integration. We’re grateful to VETMotorsports for all they do to support our veterans and look forward to many more events like this one.”

Investment Putting Injured Vets On The Fast Track

COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 25, 2017 – VETMotorsports, an award-winning, non-clinical outreach program that honors and empowers veterans with service-connected injuries through active participation in motorsports, has received a $2,000 donation from AFCEA to advance its 2017 programming.

AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association) is a member-based, non-profit association that provides leadership, engagement, education and networking opportunities to military, government, industry and academic professionals in an effort to address national and international challenges and advance global security.

The organization found an affinity with VETMotorsports’ mission, which is to provide inspiration and motivation to post-9/11 veterans with service-related injuries. The non-profit recruits veterans, embeds them with professional racing teams or puts them behind the wheel to race themselves, and covers all expenses for them and a caregiver to take part in the experience.

The AFCEA-Alamo chapter hosted eight veterans from the Austin and Houston, Texas areas for a Texas Spokes Sports Car Club autocross event in Austin on Sunday, May 21 as part of its first outreach.

“Our goal is to make the veterans we serve part of a new team and give them a new mission,” said VETMotorsports Founder and Executive Director Peter Cline. “AFCEA’s investment is going to go a long way in helping us do that.”

VETMotorsports is an award-winning, non-profit, non-clinical outreach program that honors and empowers injured post-9/11 service members by embedding them with professional racing teams and putting them behind the wheel to race in amateur events. By placing veterans in hands-on, high-stress, team environments that mimic active duty, the organization gives them direction, empowerment and challenges that help them focus on ability and moving forward rather than disability and the past. Since its founding in 2012, VETMotorsports has helped more than 160 injured veterans participate in 60 motorcycle and auto racing events across the United States. More information about the organization is available at www.VETMotorsports.org.

AFCEA (the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association) is a member-based, non-profit international organization that has helped members advance information technology, communications and electronics capabilities since 1946.
