Watch Friday Night Lights As The Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Team Presents “How To Build An R1 SuperBike In Five Hours Or Less” Cypress, CA – September 20, 2013 – Have you ever wondered how long it takes to build a Yamaha YZF-R1 SuperBike from the frame up? About five hours, if you’re really good and you’ve got two Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha crews of talented technicians working together with expert precision. This past Friday at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ, three-time defending AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes crashed after earning the provisional pole in the weekend’s first qualifying session. Josh emerged unhurt, but his #1 R1 SuperBike had to be retired due to the damage it sustained. Not long after provisional qualifying ended, both Hayes’ and Herrin’s Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha crews went to work assembling a brand-new R1 SuperBike for Hayes to ride in Saturday’s final qualifying session. Hayes’ crew chief Jim Roach orchestrated and assisted as a high-energy ballet of spinning wrenches and R1 components became a new race machine. It was “all hands on deck” for the two crews as they worked diligently while the sun set, evening came, and turned into night. “Think about that for a moment,” commented Keith McCarty, Motorsports Racing Division Manager for Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. “Our two SuperBike riders are one and two in the Championship and locked in a battle for the title. We’ve got two separate crews, but we’re all one team. And, when one crew can use a hand, the other springs into action to help. It was awesome to witness and be a part of, and we’re happy to have captured it all on video for the fans.” Look for the video recaps of the weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park from the Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha SuperBike team and the Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Daytona SportBike team coming soon.
