Village Idiots Win Both USNE and CMRA Endurance Overalls at MotorSport Ranch

The Village Idiots team rode their Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R6 to the top spots in both the US National Endurance Series, and CMRA Championship Endurance this past Saturday, August 22.

The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) held its third round of Championship Endurance, the third round of the US National Endurance Series, fifth round of Lightweight sprints, and second round of Solo 30 sprints, bringing over 9 hours of racing action to MotorSport Ranch, in Cresson, Texas. Hot humid temperatures in the high 90’s with a stiff breeze made for fast times and tiring conditions on the 1.7-mile course.

The Lightweight Sprint grids ran first and were followed by the Solo 30 races, giving a good warm up for the endurance races with large grids of over 20 bikes each despite the heat. The Altus Lawton Motorsports – Ultra Lightweight GP had 27 entries, and the Island Racing Services – Solo 30 HW Expert, HW Novice, MW Expert, MW Novice grids had a combined total of 35 entries.

The 6-Hour Championship Endurance/US National Endurance Series finished out the day with a combined grid of 22 teams, some from as far away as Maryland, Kansas, and Oklahoma, representing the Remember Brooks Gremmels – A Superbike/Heavyweight, C Superbike/Middleweight, Formula 2/Lightweight, and Modern Classic/Super Dinosaur Endurance classes. The temperatures climbed into the low 100’s, with a steady hot breeze, making grueling race conditions for the entire race. The start lights went out and as the grid surged forward, the Village Idiots team of Brandon Cleland, Chris Headley, John Orchard, and Garet Tomlinson was in an early battle with the Desert Rats Racing team on their Suzuki GSX-R750 and the Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted team Furian Racing for the lead. The Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted team of LocoMotion squared off against the Pieces of Eight team, also on a Yamaha YZF-R6, while the BMW S1000RR Army of Darkness team systematically worked through traffic for fifth.

The Village Idiots gained the lead before hour one was finished, and held onto it as the battle for position shifted back to the second through fifth place. Team LocoMotion riders Alonzo Contreras, Ryan Max Johnson, and Mark Windham latched onto second going into hour two, as the Army of Darkness with riders Sam Fleming, Kyle Ohnsorg, Chris Peris, and Ben Walters got around the Desert Rats Racing Team of Stephen Guynes, Derek Thomas, and Greg Wanless for third. Despite the heat and traffic, times remained fast.

Going into hour four, Village Idiots still held the lead and stretched it to three laps, as LocoMotion gripping second. Army of Darkness continued to hold off Desert Rats Racing for third. Team HPC aboard a Yamaha YZF-R6 wrestled with Suzuki GSX-R1000 mounted Just Can’t Quit Racing for fifth, while another Yamaha YZF-R6 team, Privateer Tools of Olay Bayramoglu, Paul Coste, Kory Pappas, Richard Schiller, and Mark Sneed duked it out with Big Boy Racing on a Kawasaki ZX-6R for sixth. Heading into the final part of the race, a couple of mishaps occurred that shook up the battles for fourth through sixth.

As the clock wound down, Village Idiots took the overall USNE and USNE Middleweight wins, overall CMRA Championship Endurance and C Superbike endurance wins turning an impressive 266 laps and finishing five laps ahead of second. The LocoMotion team finished second overall and second in Middleweight for USNE, and took second overall CMRA Championship Endurance and second C Superbike Endurance win with 261 laps and finishing 2 laps ahead of third. Army of Darkness finished third overall for USNE and took the win in USNE Heavyweight Endurance, turning 259 laps and finishing eight laps ahead of fourth.

The Privateer Tools team finished fourth overall and third in Middleweight for USNE, and took third overall and third in C Superbike for CMRA Championship Endurance with 251 laps. The Big Boy Racing team of Bobby Davies, Robert Garza, Roger Hill, and Dolph McVicker took fifth overall and second in Heavyweight for USNE, and fourth overall and the win in A Superbike for CMRA Championship Endurance with 251 laps. The Pieces of Eight riders David Branyon, Shandra Crawford, Michael Humphries, and Noah Reese, rounded it out, finishing sixth overall and third in Heavyweight for USNE and fifth overall and second in A Superbike for CMRA Championship Endurance with 249 laps.

The two other class winners were Lawdawg Racing team of Danny Dominguez, Britten Geary, Kaid Hopper, Jordan Pence, and Andrew Sukach aboard their Honda CBR1000RR, finishing eighth overall and winning Super Dinosaur for USNE, and seventh overall and also taking the win in Modern Classic for CMRA Championship Endurance with 246 laps. The G-Baby Racing team of Nicole Ayres, Becka Caudle, Daisy DeSimone, Jim Doyle, and Anita Thomas got their first class wins, finishing thirteenth overall and winning Lightweight Endurance for USNE, and 12th overall and taking the win in Formula 2 for CMRA Championship Endurance with 238 laps.
